Hello everyone,
About two years ago the basic idea of Shroudfell was born at a Game Jam. The idea came from the anime Made in Abyss in which the protagonists journey down a mysterious Abyss. We thought that an Abyss with unexplored or lost depths would be a great setting for a game. Initially, we called the project Abyss and left it at that name for almost 2 years.
Here you can see how the game jam build of Abyss looked like. It was naturally quite rough and didn’t play too well. However, we really liked the idea behind the little prototype and wanted to explore it. From there on whenever we would have some time to spare beside our studies, we would work on expanding the prototype.
We decided to make the game a Metroidvania or to be more specific a 2D platformer action-adventure.
Over time the project became more ambitious and now that we are almost done with university, we are working full-time on it (using the project as part of our graduation, I know smart right?). We spend quite a while building the lore of the world the game is set in, we even created its own language that is part of the world and that players will be able to translate, if they so choose, to uncover lore.
In the last months, we finally gave the project a proper name based on the story and lore which is Shroudfell.
For more details about the game, you can check out the description of our page.
We are still quite far away from finishing the game and are currently aiming to release it on Steam. You can follow us on Twitter or here for upcoming Devblog content about technical and art-related aspects of the development of this project as well as game art and gameplay reveals.
