It's in the Cards
So I've been making my way through scripting out the introductory sequence and I am now about 4/6ths of the way done. Yay.
I must say that scripting and checking and scripting and checking is so annoying, but it's worth it. All those checks have been fraught with bugs and value errors. I've been trying to work out all the obvious kinks and make sure things work "intentionally correctly". Meaning if you play the game as expected there should be no problems. Although, I can't wait for the alpha testing phase, where players will find all sorts of errors i'll need to fix, lol.
You can actually take a small look at part of the introduction here in the "Prototype Intro" video.
Which is a nice segue into talking about one of the game's main mechanics. The Affinity System. Temper your excitement because it sounds a lot cooler that it is.
In the beginning of the Prototype intro video the card that is displayed, "The Hero" is the player's affinity (It's not an Arcana). This is granted to the player once the first part of the intro is completed. Once granted that Affinity determines how the player experiences the rest of the game.
The idea was born out of the fact that players will be using Ruby Rose as the main character/avatar throughout this game. But I wanted to take into account that they're are players out there that might have wanted to play as one of the other members of team RWBY as the main character, and not just Ruby.
This System is my small answer to that.
The core system will affect how the player is seen and treated by the game. Access to certain locations, quest, stats, and options will all depend their affinity.
Don't get too worried about being locked out of affinity specific events. You will still be able to access all of the content in the game but that all depends on your player choices.
I hope I provided some insight and a little excitement for things to come. Please be on the look out for more updates.
