The Short ‘N Sweet Jam was a game jam that challenged developers to create a short game with custom graphics that was cute. There were many games entered in this jam, I recorded all of them in my video compilation series. Below are some of my favorites, in a random order.
Cafe du Créature Demo is an adorable game that has you serving animal customers coffee at your cafe! Each animal comes into your cafe looking for a specific drink. If it is your first time creating the drink, they will even tell you how to make it. You must make sure you make the recipe as described, in the order told to you, before handing the cup over to the animal that wants it. This may seem like an easy task, but it does become challenging to remember all of the different ingredients and what is needed for each drink. Customers will be disappointed if you get their drinks wrong and explain what you need to do next time, in order to give you a better chance in the future. Cafe du Creature Demo is indeed a short game, but a fun one at that!
Demon Tea is a very cute RPG adventure about a demon named Tea! You play Tea, but at first you really don’t know much about yourself. You don’t look quite like the people of this town, but you do save a townsperson and go with her on a quest to get cookies! These cookies are proving to be a hard task, as not even the shop is open.
I do not want to spoil any of this short adventure, but I will say that there is a lot more backstory to Tea, which you will discover at the end of the game. It is a very touching story - one of demons in the human world…. If you are into cute adventures, friendship, and finding nice places in the world, this RPG is for you.
Helper Witch is a charming game that has you playing a magical and rather helpful witch! You find ways to help everyone in need, and in this specific case, are needed to raise some money for an overworked shop owner called Velvet. Velvet’s sister was badly hurt in an accident and she needs to send money home to her so she can get surgery. Velvet has been working extremely hard to earn this money, but could use the extra help. It is up to you to see what the townsfolk need, and try to earn money from them to aid Velvet!
Some of the townsfolk have simple needs to be met - to sing a song or talk to another person in the town. Others have more complex needs like solving riddles or finding something they can’t seem to find. Either way, you are not only helping Velvet but also helping the entire town! In Helper Witch you can end up helping everyone - all for a good cause as well.
No Time for Cake! is a fun and frantic multiplayer cake decorating game! This game is meant to be played with 3 people, but if you have two and don’t care about winning, that works fine! The idea is that one person is the judge and the other people are cake decorators. Each player will have one minute to decorate their cake using blueberries, different tubes of frosting, jelly fish, sprinkles, strawberries, and candles while the others look away! Once everyone has decorated their cakes, it’s time to judge.
The judge selected at the beginning has the final say, but everyone will get the chance to see all of the cakes created. These cakes come out really nice - all of the graphics are based on physical pictures that were taken of each item, adding a really nice charm to No Time for Cake!. I really enjoyed this realistic cake decorating game, even though I only had one other person to play with!
And those are all of my favorites from this wonderful little jam!
