Howdy! We've come here with a special announcement. An announcement that will perhaps interest you. Or not, it's up to you. But either way...
It's finally here! After months of work, we are now able to provide you all two more new areas: The Jungle Area and The Plains Area.
For those who don't know, both those areas represent their versions of UNDERTALE's unique areas. What comes after The Savannah Area is just JAPARITALE's take on Snowdin, which is the same for all others.
Now, as always, if you find any bugs during gameplay, don't forget to report the issue to us on the Discord Server! Did I mention we had a server before? We're welcoming all players there!
Progress Summary
Now that a new release is coming up with the devlog now being published, we're ready to show you what we've made. This is the moment you've all been waiting for! Or not, it's your choice. Either way, here's the summary below.
Before we start with a full-length summary of all changes we've made to the game, let's begin with a short one.
In terms of programming, the demo is 100% complete! We've tried our best to add everything we can. This might be the last build planned that uses TML's Undertale Engine.
In terms of dialogues and writing though, placeholders are still a thing. Normally, we would consider dialogues from Demo v1.0 complete, but we've decided to rewrite them after a small talk with our writer. We've decided that these dialogues were so short, and they needed some sort of buff. Not only that, there were some errors in grammar and accuracy according to the Kemono Friends Glossary. We've also noted that JAPARITALE not only takes place after Kemono Friends Nexon and before the actual anime itself, but it also has alternatively designed areas rather than the ones the anime shows the viewer.
Music and spriting are all done, but we might add a little twist to each of them in the future. Currently, we don't know how we're going to approach this but we'll try to find a way.
Now onto a smaller and more detailed interpretation of what we've made during these past few months, we've got...
The user interface has been more UNDERTALE-ized. The game was too far from UNDERTALE's art style.
It is now possible to change the dialogue box shape. You can now change the dialogue box shapes to rounded and normal.
The name "Extras" is changed to "Settings". The old name doesn't represent what's inside that menu.
Kaban doesn't create particles anymore when running. The game was too far from UNDERTALE's art style.
Outdated languages now show a warning icon on the right of the text. This will tell if the language data is outdated. If it is, expect missing lines of dialogue and bugs during gameplay.
The Settings Menu now includes the Credits button. It will directly take the player to The Credits screen.
GameJolt API bugs that are present while writing out the username and the game token should now be fixed. Players should now be able to write their usernames and game tokens correctly.
The first room of The Jungle Area now has a fog. This adds spookiness to the room itself.
The Menu Screen's song changes if you're playing the game at night or in the morning. Small detail, but it feels better.
Added First Time Setup. For newcomers, the game will ask you to choose the settings you prefer.
Improved the Overworld Menu. You can now store more than 8 items! Cool, right? We're aware there is a bug in the battle screen where other item types are not shown. We'll try to fix this.
Added the Intro Sequence. Demo v1.0 didn't have it normally available, and was only accessible via debug. Now it appears at the start of the game.
Improved the Disclaimer Screen. Instead of showing parts of the text, it now shows everything at once after a few seconds of typewriting.
Added The Jungle Area. Everything about The Jungle Area is added.
Added The Plains Area. The duel battle is not implemented; expect it to be there in Demo v3.0.
Demo v3.0 Roadmap
For Demo v3.0, we'll be implementing two more areas: The Observatory and The Outskirts. You'll be watching the PPP Live Show for someone's favor, knowing things about yourself and the island in Demo v3.0 You'll get to know about yourself more. The game doesn't end there, though! Other outbreaks might occur.
Though this may seem easy to do, to prepare myself for the university exams, I will not be able to provide updates for a year. But when the hiatus ends, you'll see me implementing stuff as fast as I can.
Until that time comes, we'll not be joining UnderEvent.
Therefore, I'm putting this game on hiatus until 2024 June. The earliest date I can be available is at that time.
Plans Before Hiatus End
Due to how the game is written in poorly made code and there's a lack of rooms in each area, I will be recreating the game from scratch next year. And for that, I may or may not be using my own Undertale engine to recreate the game on. I can guarantee that each area is going to take at least half an hour to pass to the next. I'll be implementing rooms you wouldn't see in this game and I'll focus on detail more rather than the story.
Which means, the development process is going to take really longer, but with your help, I might be able to speed up the process. We'll always be welcoming new team members when the applications are open!
Hope you have a good day! I'll be waiting for the new JAPARITALE gameplay videos you guys will be posting soon!
