I sat down with Recombobulator Games!
Let's see what they said!
Tell us what your game is all about:
Space Boat is a new narrative adventure game with investigative elements. You play as Inspector Domino, a space cat detective, and it's up to you to stop a shapeshifting thief from running away with a priceless jewel. As an inspector, you'll don a muppet-like mecha suit, talk to many curious lifeforms, jot down notes and solve puzzles, and explore a sprawling space cruiser, but in cat form, you'll navigate secret passages, listening on conversations, and touch many things you probably shouldn't.
What inspired you to make this game?
We love adventure games of all shapes and sizes, and while there are some narrative adventure games that have become popular, like Life is Strange, we miss the humorous adventure titles we grew up with, like Monkey Island and Sam & Max. We wanted to make a game that pays homage to the OG adventure games while making something fresh for a new generation.
What's the most challenging part about making your game?
Having to market it and show it round to everyone whilst also developing it at the same time. We have about an hour of content for Space Boat so far, but we take the time to watch everyone's playthroughs and listen to feedback. Also, finding funding and interested publishers is always a trial.
What are your goals in the game industry?
To finish Space Boat and put it in the hands of as many adventure fans as possible. Right now we have a free public demo up on our Kickstarter page, and we encourage everyone to go and try it!
What game inspired you most growing up?
Games like Space Quest, Kings Quest, Full Throttle-- all the old Sierra And Lucas Arts adventure games.
If you could give any advice to anybody that wants to make their own game, what would it be?
Be clear about the vision for the game. Choose an engine that works with the type of game you want to make. Make multiple builds and test them with your intended audience. Try to implement feedback as best you can, and thank people for taking the time to play.
Where can people find you and your game?
Right now, you can get the free demo on Kickstarter at spaceboat.ca/kickstarter
Thank you so much for sitting down with me!--
