Today we’re taking a look at one of the most crucial trade routes in the Northern reaches of the Riven Realms: the East-West Road. If you’ve delved into our recently released Sunfire and Moonshadow expansion, you’re probably already familiar with it. It spans the width of the Bronze Desert, bridging the Imperial harbor of Toht to the east and Kabur, Jewel of the North, to the southwest at the foot of the Brown Mountains.

Though countless vagri traverse the East-West Road’s sand-strewn length, some seek to elude it due to the extortive taxes the Handjari have levied on it. Thus, many take what is referred to as “the Shadow Path” –  an unmarked trail in the scorching desert parallel to the proper road.

Undoubtedly, traveling the Shadow Path will allow one to evade harsh taxes even at the expense of more time in the wasteland and thus more potential for peril. Should you find yourself near the East-West Road, you must make a choice: risk taking the longer, harder path running parallel to it or entertain the possibility of a shakedown without the right faction to back you up. The wasteland is a cruel place, so our advice is to weigh your options carefully.
