May 2023 Devlog

Hello everyone! We apologize for the delay, it most certainly has been a while. We would like to give you a quick update on the game's overall progress! First and foremost, we would like to thank each and every one of you for playing the mini-demo. We have had over approximately 30,000 downloads/plays for the demo, which is absolutely insane!

The whole point of all our work is to give you guys something you can experience for yourselves, which can hopefully recapture some if not most of the magic of your first Undertale playthrough.

We'd like to give a shout out to all of the talented new members who have joined our team. We are excited to move forward with this project with you guys! If anyone reading this is interested in applying for the team, go ahead and hop over to our Discord server and let us know you'd like to apply! We are always looking for new members!

Now then with formalities out of the way, let's go over some of the progress we have made so far this year.

Writing

We have been working on outlining the rest of the Flooded Temples and trying to work on what would happen in the sub-areas. As we've been working on this, however, we've come to the realization that we don't yet have an outline for the entire game as a whole. Therefore, for the rest of this month, we are going to be seriously buckling down on our outline for the game as a whole before we move on with the rest of the Flooded Temples.

This may result in the rest of the Flooded Temples being a bit delayed, however, we feel that doing it this way is what will lead to a better game overall.

Art

This is probably where we've had the most progress so far this year. We have had several enemies sprited and have had tile sets and decorations for the sub-areas begun to be fleshed out. We are also working on the concept art and layout for the remainder of the temples. We can't share everything we've done for this due to spoilers, but we do have one image we can share as a sneak peak of sorts for something we have planned for the Rest of the Flooded Temples:

Look a little familiar? Well, that's because it's a variant of the Whimsun encounter! If you compare it to the standard Whimsun, you'll notice some differences.

We plan on having variants of other monsters you have already encountered showing up in the rest of the Flooded Temples, and in future areas. Be on the look out!

Music

We have been making progress on the OW themes for the upcoming areas in the Flooded Temples, as well as some music that will play during some scenes. We'll share a couple, non-spoilery ones here:

Right now, our goal is to have a fully playable and fleshed out arc released every year (so, remainder of the Flooded Temples this year, Snowdin next year, Waterfall after that, etc.). As we flesh out the outline for the entire game, these goal posts may or may not change. We will keep you guys in the loop. We do not want our team members to burn out or feel overly pressured, so if one arc per year is not sustainable then we will cut things back to give our team (of 100% unpaid volunteers!) appropriate time to rest.

Thank you for expressing interest in our game! We are excited to see where this journey takes us and are grateful to have all of you with us along for the ride.
