Mindness - what's next?

Greetings to all fans of our project Mindness! Firstly I would like to thank your for your interesting in the game here on GameJolt. It seems that the game has already brought more interest than our previous story-driven action platformer, Warped Times: Pres3nt :)

The beginnings of the development

I added Mindness here a couple months ago, when it was a prototype. The basic idea for the game was born about a year and a half at school, and I decided to choose this game for my school assignment. When choosing the engine, I was deciding between Game Maker, with which I have years of experience, and Unity, which would give our team more advantages for the future. Because I was planning to focus on 3D projects, I picked Unity. During the development, a lot has changed, including the game genre and style, and I eventually made the 3D prototype you can see on the screenshots in the game’s profile.

(final playable prototype)

Several months of hard work have passed since the basic prototype, however I didn’t have too much time to pay attention to the details game development requires. The school deadline was getting closer, so my goal was to finish all the basic aspects of the game, and make a playable version. In the end, I did manage to pull it off, although the demo is highly unpolished and still needs a massive amount of work. During that time though, I figured out the direction I was going with the gameplay and the style of the game, and I am positive that the final result will be worth it.

What is next?

When I decided to showcase the project here, I was worried that the original prototype wouldn’t work as a game, because my knowledge of Unity is still very limited, and that I wouldn’t be able to continue the development. Thankfully that was not the case, and based on the feedback I decided to actually take the prototype and make it into a proper game. That said, releasing the next playable version will require a lot of time, but I will be glad to share how the development is progressing. For now, I have a picture of the overhauled main character, which has a much better appearance, animations and controls. The entire team would like to thank you for your interest, and be sure to look forward to more updates from the development! :)

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)

Hello my space friends! Now I added a space background to the ship. I love that space look but I still feel like stuff is missing. The lighting on the ship needs some improvements I think. Please tell me your opinion!
