MYSTERYTALE ONLINE 1.0 Public BETA Release + Changelog


Aight, I promised it and here it finally is.

Keep in mind that this version of the game will not be developed any further in favor of a new version being developed in a new engine.

This build of the game is separate from the main game, as such it's available as a separate download and the prior full version remains online.

Saving is disabled in this build to avoid potential issues.

Expect bugs and glitches. This IS just an unfinished build gone public, after all.


Potential Questions and their answers about this build

Q: So is this it for MYSTERYTALE Online?
A: Far from it, plans have just changed a little and I've grown tired of working on the current outdated code. That said, MYSTERYTALE Online will be more of a side mode in the future and may adopt a Peer-to-peer type of multiplayer instead. All this really means is that there's an actual game to play right next to it and that you and your friends maybe be able to play in private servers and private lobbies. Also that you probably won't have to fear about server shutdowns killing the multiplayer altogether.

Q: Will my Save Data carry over into the new version?
A: Your 0.12.2 Save Data will carry over into this BETA, but not into the new version being developed in a new engine. That said, is there really much to lose other than maybe playtime?

A: Check out the below Devlog.

Q: Will [X] thing be in the new game?
A: I'd much rather answer questions about the new game in a separate devlog, or, I dunno, the comments or something. However, plans are to include the majority of content from the GMS1.4 version of MTO, such as its chat system, PvP System, maps, skins and even its scrapped Racing Mini-Game (that was scrapped for being absolutely terribly made).

Q: Sans PvP?
A: Uh, technically. Unfortunately he only has, like, one finished spell and it's pretty basic. I could've probably half-assed a basic Gaster Blaster spell for the public build, but... nah. Outside of a lacking moveset though, Sans should be mostly functional.

Q: Can we have the source code?
A: Imma be real with you on this one. I don't think you want it. It's trash. That's, like, the main reason I started work on a new engine. It's awful to work with. I can't believe I once put someone through the agony of trying to help me with this mess of a source code. So, uh, yeah, no, you don't want it. But, uh, as a consolation prize, I suppose I could show off some progress on that new thing soon.

Q: But I really want the source code!
A: Look, whatever you do, I just ask that you don't mess up the experience for anyone else playing.

Q: How do you get Super Sonic?
A: You don't. Super Sonic hasn't been in the game for, like, years.


(Incomplete) Changelog between 0.12.1 and this BUILD:

Changes:

  • Fixed the game running at, like, half of its intended speed (GMS1.4 Jank)

  • Added a new Guide Function to the CELL Phone! Check there for any questions you may have!

  • You can now chat while a taunt is active

  • Added... something to Toriel's Basement (Unfinished)

  • Added a brand-new custom Log-In Screen has been added based on the intro sequence of DELTARUNE

  • Partial Controller Support! Some displays may be bugged with a controller plugged in and SPELLs cannot be controlled with them, but it's here

  • The Chat Cooldown System was removed

  • You can now customize the color of your SOUL (when playing as a monster) once again! This feature was absent for a few versions because of... what reason?

  • You can now further customize how usernames are displayed!

  • A proper settings menu has been added to the load menu and your CELL phone

  • Battling players now appear visible on the overworld

  • Zacharie makes his return as an alternate shopkeeper for Batter and Judge! Even I have no idea what the lore behind him being here is

  • Skins without SPELLs have been banned from competitive PvP. They remain usable in immersive PvP, however

  • Papyrus' Really Cool Regular Attack is now only usable once per battle, even if the user recovers TP

MYSTERYTALE GMS2 - Overworld Engine Progress

hi yeah sorry didnt work for about 2 months there whoops

just added an anti-latency mechanic for pvp where the enemy's soul will be moved on your screen based on ping to keep it synced even with delay. still needs in-depth testing, but i'm hoping that'll make pvp against high ping users more bearable
