Orion: The Precursor* (Teaser) Reveal:

You play as Quill, a guy lost in thoughts, locked in a foreign place, without any memories, without any escape. Can he at least get a grip of current situation, or will the void make him insane? And was it his fault?

*finally decided on a name different than Arcade

History behind O:TP(T) and most recent updates:

Orion: The Precursor (Teaser) is a playable teaser (duh) of a game I wanted to create for 5+ years (mostly due to lacks of motivation and skill in game dev.) unsuccessfully. That changes with O:TP(T) getting published. The lore made by my dream will be shared with the rest of the world, no matter the cost. Even if it's not that good.

I suppose this would be the 5th devlog, but since it's the biggest update so far, and I hadn't really updated GJ page that much, I decided to make it a one big reveal instead of smaller updates.

Anyway in those 2 weeks of my winter break I grinded my ass off. Many things were added, some changed and few were removed. But most importantly it's finally fully playable and will be published shortly after this post. Looking back I wouldn't think that a game this size would take me this much time. And I was right, it wasn't a problem with time. It was a problem with mindset, giving up too quickly and focusing on the GJ page instead of actually working on the game. But to the point:

Minor updates from last time:

  • timeline got redone all over again (for the 2nd time) and this time it's final. In comparison, it's about 3 to 6 times bigger and way more precise than previous iterations. I can't spoil more than this since unraveling it's secrets was the entire purpose behind me creating this game

  • a bit better looking placeholders

Implemented stuff:

  • working cutscene system (hopefully)

  • music & SFX system (couldn't finish volume control in time sorry)

  • quests (not much to them, they just exist)

  • 2 languages (ENG/PL, don't ask me why it's in start game, not settings - it's a demo build / teaser alr, redoing menu would take too much time)

  • secrets and lore bits (there are so so so much more to it)

Working on / Next up:

  • Pixel Art mostly (rn my skills in pixel art sucks sooo thats kinda obvious)

  • GMLCode and programming in general (tbh it sucks, especially with random bugs)

  • just chilling for a bit since i'm getting back to work soon (i'm probably back by the time you read this)

Later on:

  • Full Build of part 1 (Orion: The Precursor) (if you want to see the whole part of lore as game, if not i'll figure out something different)

  • 2nd part (smaller project)

Finishing:

Working on this shit took most of my Christmas and I'm a bit burned out tbh. Hopefully it comes out, not as bad as I see it. Release is planned in early January

If you could please try it out (it's super short) and share your experience that would be really helpful to me. I care what you guys think, and I truly need feedback, since it's my first real game.

Hope you piece this mess together and find the truth where it's buried (or at least bits of it)
