PATH TO THE END - Combat Demo Release.

So, hi everyone. It's been two years since I last posted something relevant about game development around here, so, strap in, because I'll update you on what has been going on for these last two years.

Path to the End is a game I've been trying to make a reality for some time now. Originally conceived as a megalomaniacal 3D game, the result of a more childish and dazzled mindset than I was capable of. So, I slowly matured alongside the project and spent three long years from its original conception fine-tuning the script, revising and perfecting every narrative thread as best I could, creating a story that would finally satisfy me and prove worthy of production.

The game's scope has drastically changed, as mentioned previously, now returning to classic turn-based RPGs, drawing heavily from OMORI, PERSONA and DELTARUNE/UNDERTALE. We also opted for a unique and distinct visual style, descending from the artistic decisions of Hollow Knight, with Art Nouveau as the foundation of the project's style, albeit with a more rustic variation.

We began designing the Alpha at the beginning of the year at Clickteam Fusion 2.5, under the codename Lost Pathway. I called my friend and gamedev partner @newzyro_ to collaborate on the code (and later on the music) and left the art in the hands of Manuweing, a trusted artist and longtime friend.

Here's how the game looked a month or two in development.

We then finished the Alpha and moved on to the Beta, finally using the name Path to The End. We designed a new logo and tried finishing the battle system, added an objective, new background and a save point.

But something seemed off. We had enemy types coded, we had attacks, special attacks (skills), items, but something felt missing, that's when we got the idea to implement a system of drawings just like in Bomb Rush Cyberfunk onto the battlefield, so, now, to attack an enemy, you must draw something for the hit to land. Just as to use skills and others.

With all this ready, it was time to polish some minor details and put the game into betatesting phase, which is when I'm writting this down, August 1st. By now, Path to The End's COMBAT DEMO is available to download on Gamejolt. Remember, It's only a proof of concept, so don't expect much aside from the battle system. The game is currently being recoded for the final version in GODOT since Clickteam isn't the best engine for this type of game. Have fun!

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.
