In the previous article I mentioned that I was working on a player design. But I figured I owed some proof to everyone to show that the game is indeed in the works. I could update the previous article, but that will eventually make it to a point of TL;DR
So here’s the base player:
I exported a model from MakeHuman that’s fully rigged which will make animating everything sooo much easier. As you can see, he does not have a helmet, but the helmet will be applied in photoshop/gimp. I prefer not to do hard surface modeling right now, as this is a 2D game.
Now, I know it doesn’t look like he has gloves or elbow pads, and there’s also the fact he’s wearing long pants. But that’s where the magic of texture editing comes in. I don’t need to remodel the legs (The export screwed up, the legs disappeared), but I just jook the original pants texture, sliced it in half, and replaced the bottom half with skin, making sure to fix the normals as well. And then I took the hands and arms UVs, and retextured them as well!
Here’s the actual render of the base player:
Look, even the stick was made. I was pretty proud of the stick modeling, and the fact that I could even make the mesh and GeoDomes. Thank God for Wings3D.
That’s it for today. I’ll see what else I can get done, maybe some small things like menu design.
