Disclaimer: I'm not trying to be obnoxious, this is just a parody of one of my favorite The Game Theorists' YouTube channel's series: "The SCIENCE!" (go check it out if you haven't already. It's amazing). Try to imagine it as Austin obnoxiously screaming at the microphone.
The information I'm providing is still true, but especially the How Lazy part and the next big paragraph... I don't really think like that nor am I mad at life and even proud like that.
So yeah, take it with a grain of salt and have some fun while trying to imagine a guy screaming as crazy while reading this Austin-letter-formatted devlog. Don't take it personally.
Basically, everything in high case letters is obnoxious screaming, but if it is bold, well, it's super loud and obnoxious screaming.
Dear audience,
Hey! It’s ME, IGOR! Crank up that good classical music volume because Singularities make NO GOD DAMN SENSE.
Now, references and jokes aside I’ll tell you why do I believe Singularities were a mistake in my game.
Last week I barely could hold my hands on my seat because of how busy I was. Sometimes even I get surprised by myself. So I had very little time available, right? Yeah. Very, very little. The last devlog I said I wanted to do a lot, a crap ton of stuff. Well, that didn’t happen.
I still hadn’t finished my Skills, such as the Singularities (Black and White) and the E.M.P., despite what I said on that same devlog.
I know what you’re gonna say on the comments section (even though no one comments on my posts):
HOW LAZY!
To which I respond:
[Even louder obnoxious screams]
Yeah, try to wear all of the hats yourself. Try it. I still have a life to manage as well. It’s a pretty long list of specializations you need to have, such as Animation, Art, Game Design, Level Design, Marketing, Programming, Music Composing, and a ton more!
Now boy, how stressful was the development of that Singularity skill.
No, let’s back up a bit. Before they were "born", I had to implement another concept in my game, knockback. And yes, I know that I’m using Unity and that it has that Rigidbody thingy, which I use, but since I like to modify the velocity myself, eh… it wasn't so easy.
I had to add knockback to my overwritten velocities. Do you know how many enemies are in the game? Just take a look at the first picture above, on the screenshots section! Each of those has its personal way of handling movement in its own script.
Okay, but what then? Knockback was added, it’s freaking working, but OH MY GOD, MATH! [Getting obnoxious again]
Singularity. Black Singularity. You’re one of a kind, did you know? So complicated… It took me over THREE DAYS to figure out how the math worked on this thing, and, surprise(!) it’s nothing like the enemy Singularity (a.k.a. normal Black Hole maths), and only God knows why!
I can assuredly say that the White Singularity… it’s not happening. I can’t figure out what would it do and it just doesn’t, as I said before, make any god damn sense as a skill itself. It’s hopeless. So, it’s ded. D. E. D. DED.
I also don’t have the patience after hitting my head so many times on this Singularity!
I’m still not one hundred percent happy with this thing still, but I’ll leave it alone for now.
After that headache, the work went pretty well. The E.M.P. got totally implemented and now it’s working wonders. Bombs, Cannon Bombs, and Split Missiles are also working perfectly.
I also fixed the enemy missile’s AI. It was a bit too OP.
The soundtrack is in the game, at least in the OGG format, the Drones are finished, and I’m working on the Phantoms and the Illusion now.
You can see the progress of my game through the weeks on Don’t Die’s Trello board.
Follow me on Twitter as well. Anyways, I’m going to sleep for the rest of my life.
Sincerely, Igor.
p.s.
If you enjoyed this version of devlogs (that totally wasn’t a rip off of The Game Theorists Youtube channel, go check them out, it’s a great channel) tell me it in the comments! I might do it again!
Thanks for reading.
