Greetings, archivists.

Freddy Or Not has caught a lot of eyes lately, especially after Dawko's standalone video playing the demo. And a lot of fans have asked the same question: Which FNAF characters will be in the game? Or, sometimes, "Will [specific character here] be in the game?". So I'm going to try to give the answers, explain our reasons, and set some expectations.

For the past few months, we've been developing a version of Freddy Or Not that includes characters from Scott's original 7 horror titles: Five Nights at Freddy's 1, 2, 3, and 4, Sister Location, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator, and Ultimate Custom Night. We call this the "Classic Games Pack". And when I say characters from these games, I mean characters who DEBUT in those games. So even though Bouncepot is in UCN, he's not in our database because he debuted elsewhere, in FNAF World.

This version of the game is pretty close to completion, and it's the one that Dawko played an early version of. It will be completely free, forever, available to download on Game Jolt (and we will also try to also release a version that can be played via browser).

That being said, if Freddy Or Not does especially well (lots of downloads, some big YouTube videos, positive reception), then I will consider developing an expanded version of the game as a paid (cheap) release on Steam and eventually consoles/mobile. This expanded version would feel much more like a proper game with additional game modes that use the database, player progression, unlockables, and more. But, most importantly, it would include additional "Packs". These would be new collections of characters that can be toggled on/off, so you can customise the pool of characters to guess from.

If this expansion goes forward, the planned new Packs would be:

• Steel Wool Pack (Help Wanted, Security Breach, Ruin, Help Wanted 2, Secret of the Mimic) - about 115 new characters

• FNAF World Pack - about 105 new characters

• Fanverse Pack (FNAC, TJOC, POPGOES, FON) - about 115 new characters

Some people have asked about characters beyond this. I can say right now that anything after those packs ^ is not a guarantee, but I'll give you my thoughts.

• Spinoff Pack (Fury's Rage, Freddy In Space 2, Freddy In Space 3, Into The Pit, Five Laps at Freddy's) - Slightly likely to happen, maybe post-release. No guarantee. Maybe 50% chance.

• Books Pack (Trilogy, Fazbear Frights, Tales from the Pizzaplex) - Slightly less likely than Spinoffs. It's mostly a case of finding confirmed details for the characters in these games. It's unlikely that humans would be included because they aren't particularly integral to the series or visually distinct. But characters like Fetch, HAPPS, Felix, Stitchwraith, I understand have potential. 35% chance.

• Troll Game Pack (FNAF3 Troll Game, FNAF World Halloween Edition, Sister Location MA, UCN Demo) - Unlikely. The majority of these games don't feature totally unique characters, and they're not really supplemental material that the average FNAF fan is expected to look into. 15% chance.

• Movies Pack - Super unlikely. The movies include very few original character debuts. The majority of characters are new interpretations of existing FNAF characters, and their inclusions would almost definitely be more frustrating than fun. Toy Chica is depicted as a Springlock "suit" in the second FNAF movie, so she'd need to have a new listing in the database. What would she be called? "Cinematic Toy Chica", "Movie Toy Chica", "Springlock Toy Chica"? It's just a bit crazy. 5% chance.

• FNAF AR Pack - Not going to happen. I know a lot of FNAF AR fans exist and they'd probably enjoy guessing from the skins in that game, but FNAF AR was sunsetted years ago, which means there's no legitimate or authorised way to actually play the game. It would be inappropriate for Freddy Or Not to include characters for a game that literally does not currently exist! Plus, debut years would be pretty confusing since some skins launched in 2020 and some others in 2021. 0% chance.

I've also been asked how we qualify what counts as a "character", and why some obscure things in the FNAF games are represented in FON, but not others. Well, FNAF is a complicated game series with a bunch of confusing and vague stuff in it, but I've tried to set some guidelines to help with this:

• For the free release, the character must DEBUT in one of the 7 original survival games.

• Generally speaking, for a character to be represented in FON, they need to have a name, not just a description. A name that is given in the game, or by Scott, or in some kind of supplemental material (like a non-fiction book), or an extremely widely accepted community nickname (like "Orange Guy"). That means characters who are just sprites in minigames with vague descriptions, like "Balloon Boy-Looking Kid from FNAF4", and "Guy Sitting On Couch from FFPS" do not count. These are effectively background decorations rather than truly acknowledged characters.

• I accept different ITERATIONS of the same animatronic/person as unique characters, but not different PRESENTATIONS. William Afton, for example, is technically in the game 6 times. Purple Guy (FNAF2), Springtrap (FNAF3), William Afton (SL) Dark Springtrap (SL), Scraptrap (FFPS) and (probably) Orange Guy (FFPS). These are different iterations, or eras, that are definitely distinct enough to justify different listings. It would be disingenuous and confusing to only have "Purple Guy" as William's representation, with a debut in 2014, and then to give him the Springlock and Rabbit qualifiers simply because he is technically William Afton who wore the Spring Bonnie costume later. So they are given different listings. But different PRESENTATIONS, like "Classic Freddy in the FNAF2 Cutscene", or "Balloon Boy in BB's Air Adventure" are NOT different characters. They are Freddy and BB. They're just presented differently.

• Background props and objects are generally disregarded unless they are acknowledged as "characters" somewhere in the franchise. The Desk Fan is an object; not a character. Same for the Jar of Pickles. The toys in the FNAF4 bedroom are also considered decorations, not characters, but the strange ornaments in Sister Location (such as Little Joe, Fortune Teller, and Human Heads) ARE considered characters because they're literally in the Character Encyclopedia. Plus Scott seems to give them fully-fledged "character" treatment, like with those old BTS posts on his website. This is a bit of a grey area but I have to draw the line somewhere.

• Very rarely, the ruling is too subjective to really know what to do for sure. And in those cases, it's basically just my choice whether a character is represented or not. But rest assured that I have prioritised Freddy Or Not being a FUN GAME, over being some massively extensive catalogue of data. I am not creating a Wiki page. I'm not creating a community spreadsheet. I'm creating a guessing game!

I hope this clears things up. I know this was a long post but I wanted to cover as much ground as possible so I can link people here when needed.

For those who reached this far, I'll share this: We finished all of the character artwork for the game! All 142 characters have normal and alternate artwork, completed by Shady Bear today. We may tweak things, and Archie still needs some assets, but it's still a fantastic milestone.
