Super Mario.EXE: Reckoning OCTOBER 2024 DEVLOG


*Cough Cough

Ah man what day is it... DAMN IT'S HALLOWEEN TIME!!

Hey y'all I'm SPERD and it's time for the first devlog!

Crazy that it's been one month since the last update. You may be wondering what we're been up to lately... Well we're doing great! We have primarily focused on having a better vision for the game and finalize concepts for the future!

Anyways lets get things started!


Our Vision For The Game

This whole month we've been trying to getaq good understanding of how our game should work and be to you the players. We want this game to be high quality so we wanted to prepare a bit before continuing.

After talking, we decided we'll have THREE PHASES to our projects development timeline. This is so we can focus on making each part of the game important instead of being unorganized and stressing for no reason.

If you're wondering on how we will focus on how the game is developed. It'll be like this

PHASE 1

  • Working on the games engine and polishing it up to the highest quality it can be.

  • Adding all the characters that we plan to include and their movesets. Making sure everything is balance and fun for all players around.

  • COMPLETE online and local support for the game that is smooth and working hitboxes

PHASE 2

  • Creating and building all confirmed levels for the game

  • Create all mechanics intended for certain levels

  • Add all items that have a feature (ex: springs, moving platforms, etc.)

    PHASE 3

  • Focus on everything else such as:
    menus, cosmetics, voice acting, UI, etc. to be smooth and high quality as possible

  • More collabs with other horror brew creators???


Engine Progress

As most of you know, we are using godot engine to create reckoning. It has been really useful and easier to develop with than other engines like gamemaker or clickteam.

We've recently began working on the engine and it's been going really well! It feels great to play around with even though it is really early and still not completely accurate to mario physics! I'm really proud of our programmers @DevArsenic and @HSheepy 's work so far!

There is so much to still be added though so please be patient as the engine could take a few months to be completed fully to our liking!

There's some extremely early footage of the engine in the next post that you guys get to see as a little halloween gift from the team!!

Music

Music has not been worked on as much yet as we were deciding on how music should sound in the game. After talking we found that the music will be based off arcade chip components! (like the ym2612 chip for example).

That means that a song was scrapped as it was made before our final conclusion on how music should be...

BUT! you guys get to hear it now as @QThe2DFish released the scrapped MENU THEME of the game! I advise to listen to it, even though it doesn't suit our game it's still an amazing song!

Conclusion

That comes to a close for this months devlog for reckoning! Sorry if you were expecting something more larger but I would like to keep some stuff a secret now to suprise you later on. I also was busy working on the game so barely any artwork for this devlog. (Hides in a corner)

Anyways, I'm really proud of how development is going even though we are a small team! They are all really skilled people and fun to hang out around so please make sure to check them out!

I hope you guys are still excited as we are for it! This game is getting better and better by the day!
