Super Smash Bros 3DS Full Review


On the start of the game the first thing everyone does is go to Smash and spend a large sum of their time playing as the new characters, unlocking others. It took me awhile to actually get to the other modes and when I finally came across Smash Run, I spent a long time there. It has similar mechanics to City Trial in Kirby: Air Ride, which is a game I loved. It even has an enemy from that game. You start off looking for power ups, items, and challenges to make your fighter the strongest, even though you always die at the end. The game knows how to make it challenging and definitely makes it fun and the end result is always perfect. I played as my own Mii, Wsonar, and upon getting all my powerups, I noticed that the level was a race. That’s ok, just the person with the highest amount of speeds being Sonic The Hedgehog. Since the race isn’ a direct who’s faster and a more who’s fast and avasive type of game, I was in the lead for most of it until I decided not to try to make the goal but instead hit sonic thinking he would slow down, which didn’t work. Other then that there are games like 300% damage, team, and normal smash.

When I went to the online mode, I was amazed to find it, fun. Besides the occasional, and by occasional I mean reoccuring lag that happens in almost every battle, it’s fun to play people other then CPU for once. When I go to my first game, which is Team Battle For Fun, I instantly do good. I only once crept into “For Glory” and faced a couple of people. Knowing they would be more try hard, I still pressed on and lost to Donkey Kong. If you’re wondering which character I use when I can’t use my Mii, it’s Pac-Man.

I looked a little deeper and couldn’t find much interesting about multiplayer, but it’s still cool. When I went onto the Mii screen for the first time being the achievement hunter I am and wanting the challenge complete, I found it really interesting. I actually use my Mii in a lot of offline modes I play, and have gotten quite used to him and the announcer saying Mii, which I didn’t get until I heard it a few times. Although the customization does have limits and there is probably one other person in the world with the same character, I can still find myself believing I am unique with this person I created. The moves are actually very fun to use and I prefer the basic types of moves when using the swordsmen.

Playing Smash was as it always was, unlocking characters and stages. Though it seems a lot easier on this version especially as a handheld and lowers the amount of joy you get when unlocking a character, especially when you know who they are. Even if you don’t you can look on multiplayer which unlocked characters are completely viewable even before they are unlocked. The stages were fun, but they didn’t seem to bring back all of the good ones. My personal favorite i the Wario Ware Inc. one. I also missed the customization that was formerly in the Smash games such as invisibility, Metal mode, and Stamina my favorite mode. I also dislike the design to the menu and item screen. While I get it’s to save space and simplify it, it still looks like a downgrade which is something the 3DS has done before, making their games look worse then the past installments to the series.

Overall I would play this because the achievement getting is challenging and fun, and so are the modes and multiplayer in a way which you’ll always enjoy one. You can still mess around in Smash. I didn’t play a lot of Street Smash and only did practice for the challenges but I like the concept and will play in the future.
