I've recently dabbled a bit with Godot, and I feel like it would be a more suitable engine to work than Game Maker.
It's completely free, UI development is a breeze, it features better support for good-looking lighting systems, and it allows me to write code in C#, which I also use in uni.
Video coming soon about this decision. In the meantime, I've already started work in Godot by making this main menu.
Next up
I've implemented a simple text cutscene at the start of the first chapter, more cutscenes will follow when I implement more of the storyline.
