Hello everyone, this post is not just about the Greenlit game, but the AU it came from as a whole. I will be discussing what will become of both and where things from go from then on.
Greenlit as a game
As much as turning Greenlit into a proper FNaS fangame has been a long-time goal for me, it has unfortunately become unreachable for a good while. A weak drive of motivation and severe lack of confidence in (2D) animation already existed as key factors, but one thing from my personal life has come into play: college. I am at my senior year currently, and the project I am doing in relation to said year is an original video game that requires time, effort, and even collaboration poured into it. I do not want the Greenlit game to conflict with that, so I have no choice but to keep it on indefinite hiatus.

Does this mean Greenlit is canceled? No, not really. Maybe one day I'll find the time or drive to continue working on it, but for now it will be a valuable learning experience (in my eyes). Pushing myself to do a proper planning phase for a year and creating a functioning prototype in TurboWrap feels like big achievements to me, and I don't know how my confidence in game development would have improved if I didn't pull both things off.
I am open to sharing what was planned for the game, as I don't think what it offers is that big of a deal. As always however, there are some things I cannot share, either because they relate heavily to the story or feel too valuable to not keep as surprises.
Greenlit as an AU
The real Greenlit, the AU itself, will not deal the same fate as the game related to it. It did start off as a rather silly story with its own character designs after all! Creating character designs and writing up the story behind Greenlit is far more manageable compared to working on the game. With this in mind, I have spent time contemplating on how else I could share more about the AU without leaving people waiting forever. What I concluded upon serves the new direction behind how I'd like to manage Greenlit.
Greenlit's story is now planned to be told in literary fashion, or in other words, an actual Five Nights at Sonic's fan-fiction. The characters, world, and narrative have been solidified (for the most part) over the course of more than 5 years! I think it's about time I transform documents upon documents of what I've planned out into a real story with character dialogue, chapters, and a whole bunch of words. Where I plan to upload the story is something I haven't decided on though, but I'm sure there's a good site or two to look for!
As for character designs, all that remains are Greenlit Golden's two other appearances: one for when he's using his cloak, and the other for how he looked in the past. The former has gotten a draft done rather recently, so expect that to be done first. A post will come once both are done, presenting a more complete reference sheet for Greenlit Golden and one last update to the roster image.

Any designs/characters I make after Golden Sonic's completion will be non-canon, such as Replica Sonic and Replica Mario (Replicas are Greenlit's [non-canon] toy animatronics):

Why most of the clones go aggressive at midnight, the fate of SMPP, and the entire deal behind Golden Sonic will be made clear eventually...
What's here may not seem like much, but that's because the whole situation with Greenlit hasn't grown much stressful to me. The only challenge was taking the time to think about what to do about the AU, and I feel less (unneeded) weight now that I set a more manageable direction. The game remains in hiatus, but the AU and its story will continue to live on. In a way, I have taken a necessary step back with Greenlit.
Whatever comes next will be nothing more than me wanting to share my creative work, rather than avoiding something. Passion projects like Greenlit are better off worked on at one's own pace, and I have come to understand this well. I'm happy to have come so far with my retake on a silly game, no matter how many iterations it went through. Thank you for reading, and see you next post.
