Hello all, I'm here to present v2026.4.3, a hot-fix update fixing an important issue, and since this was caught a bit too late into development of the next update, I figured: why not include the features I already finished for this update? There's a lot, so let's jump right in:
Additions (features):
Controller and Steam Input Support: Sunrise now features the ability to work with Steam's built-in input controls, alongside adding controller support back into the game. Controller type detection is now completely automatic and can detect controllers ranging from Xbox 360 controllers to PlayStation 5 controllers to even detection for if you're playing Sunrise on a Steam Deck! More information about support for that is coming soon, likely to be part of v2026.4.4. Included as well is an work in progress updated Input settings menu and controller disconnection screen.
Notifications: Alongside toasts are now: notifications! These are shown on screen for 5 seconds and can display varied amounts of information, such as, for example: the current song playing in the menus and can be quickly dismissed by clicking on them. They appear at the top right of the screen and unlike toasts, multiple can be shown at once.
Additions (technical):
Dynamic Texture Loading: Image assets (textures) in-game have all been split into different texture "groups" and those textures and their groups are loaded whenever they are needed instead of at game boot, which saves on performance and load times
Debug Mode: Sunrise now includes a developers-only debug mode, showing the built-in GameMaker overlay with the press of "F3" when debug mode is enabled
Tweaks + Changes:
Updated Version String (v2026.4.2 -> v2026.4.3)
Added Previously Unavailable Game Over Music by Xawo_X1
Tweaked the shade of red in the Game Over screen to be less harsh on the eyes
You can now press the space bar if you prefer that instead of clicking on the Sunrise logo on the title screen to enter the Main Menu
Moved Third Party Extension attributions to its own credits screen
Your master volume settings for the game will now be saved and loaded upon opening the game
Added a new track to the menus ("Star Rise" by Soba Noodles)
Disabled the ability to connect to Sunrise's planned online services if residing in an area that forces age-verification, we refuse to add this!
Bug Fixes:
Fixed a bug where clicking "Save Level As" and saving to an already existing level file will merge the original file with your current level
Fixed the origin points on the Quit and Retry buttons in the Game Over screen being off-center
Fixed a major issue that prevented users from playing Sunrise without owning the game on Steam, which you currently can't do
