Hello everyone, I'm here to present v2026.4.4, a major rewrite of a lot of core systems, but also: LOTS of cool new features! Let's begin:
Additions (features):
Layers: Levels now contain front and back layers, with back layers being dimmer and non-collidable. You can switch layers using the UP and DOWN arrow keys.
Editor Modes: The Editor now features 2 new tools: Camera Mode and the Shape Tool. Camera Mode allows you to simply view your level without making any changes, whilst the Shape Tool allows you to click and drag to highlight a region, and the game will fill in your selected region with autoterrain. You can also delete tiles and objects from your level now by holding right-click in Brush Mode without anything currently in your cursor slot.
Editor Keybinds: Currently, there are only two keybinds: CTRL+R which is the Quick Reset when in Playtesting mode, and CTRL+S, which saves the level!
Menu Parallax: This toggle-able option lets the UI in the menus shift around slightly based on your current cursor position.
Hex Terrain: A new, animated (the first), terrain is now available: titled Hex Terrain. It can be found in the Objects List by pressing ENTER in the Editor, and is scheduled to be used in various levels soon.
...something...in the Play menu...?
Additions (technical):
".sr" File and Level Format: With the introduction of two different layers and the ongoing issue of levels taking agonizingly long to save to the point of crashing, the level save and load routines have been completely rewritten. .srlvl files are now obsolete and have been replaced with the much, MUCH faster .sr file format. These use buffers instead of plaintext, which obfuscates them down to a hex editor to modify instead of Notepad or another text editor. You can load the legacy format and convert them quickly to the newer format too, so no hassle in losing your things from previous updates!
Dialogue Rework: Dialogue boxes have been reworked to work with an ID system, alongside text effects.
Tweaks & Changes:
Updated Version Numbering (v2026.4.3 -> v2026.4.4)
Saturated the Game Over screen and added a distortion effect to the background
Added sounds for players jumping, spinning, or skidding to a halt
Increased the contrast and brightness on the Level Editor background to avoid dark-on-dark asset issues
Added sounds to the Editor's UI (toolbar, etc.)
Added back the v0.1 clock ticking into the Editor
Bug Fixes:
Fixed a bug involving the camera being zoomed improperly when in Playtesting Mode
Fixed a bug where the title card dimensions were completely wrong based on camera zoom
Fixed a bug where the Editor would save duplicates of collision tags and increase lag in levels and when saving / loading levels
