Soul Update - A story in evos of time

Well Finally... I have been waiting to write this post for very long!. Let's talk about how Soul Update will resume development.

I have great news to close this year and I’m happy to tell them to you ^ _ ^

An important milestone for me

I just launched the mobile game (Void in the Sky) that I have talked in previous posts and it means a lot to me as a developer because is the very first game that I release that I can consider complete… which does not mean it can’t be improved but it is in a state that you can call it a game. Take a look to the key visual for it:

If you have been following the projects that I have posted to Game Jolt you can see that all are incomplete, and that always bothered me a lot because I always ended up falling for the scope creep, which means, I try to develop a game bigger that I can handle. This is the importance that Void in the Sky have for me, to first prove myself that I can finish developing a game and then to show you that Soul Update can be launched … however it will require some changes as I mentioned in previous posts.

Let’s start getting into Soul Update mode!

Look, the game’s concept, characters and story for Soul Update have been set more than 2 years ago, for that reason it was easy for me to add something special related to Soul Update into Void in the Sky. There is an special treat if you are interested in Soul Update and you play Void in the Sky.

Besides that there are other reasons why it will be helpful if you support Void in the Sky:

  • You can get a good idea of the scope that I’m able to achieve by myself (and some help in sound design ) in 3 months to know what to expect for Soul Update.

  • Start to get a bit familiar with the personality of the protagonist.

  • Any revenue that I earn from Void in the Sky will be used to develop Soul Update.

So… What’s Next?

Well since Void in the Sky just launched I’ll be keeping an eye on it, in case there are any bugs that I didn’t noticed and also promoting it for the rest of the year (which is like 3 days only jajajaja) and at the same time I’ll be doing some planing for Soul Update.

I said previously that Soul Update will become a mobile game and that Game Jolt do not support this kind of games but I haven’t decided yet how I’ll manage the updates yet, I’ll let you know once I decide it.

It is safe to say I think that on January 2nd I’ll fully retake the development of Soul Update and I want it to last only for 6 months, but that’s not set in stone yet but that’s my goal and the scope will be adjusted for that.

For now that’s everything I can tell you. Thanks for supporting the game for so long, I hope you enjoy the game once it is finished in 2019!

Next up

I just finished the shooting part. I'll try upload this prototype and the paper one I did so I can receive feedback early. This are gameplay prototypes which means: It should feel engaging even with placeholders. Aesthetics come after it feels fun.

1st Digital prototype... almost finished.. due to "The genius" that crashed into an electricity pole near the office and I had to work on the prototype until 1 am :). Shooting is the only thing missing (Dash, aim + ray cast done). Will share it this week

After doing some play-testing at the office, I concluded the following: - The shooting prototype will feel better with normal shooter movement. - The "Moral system" is engaging but needs more options. - 3rd person view feels good for exploration.

Instead of using the 3D model of a future game of mine (Last gif) I'll use this placeholder (more personalized) that shows the feel I'm trying to communicate in the game. I tried VRoid for 1 1/2 hour and I think I can use this model for prototypes

Today I tweaked a little bit the face (Pic 1) and tested a few animations (gif). I was in an event from work so I couldn't progress that much but I want to have a better prototype build before February ends. See you soon! #shooter #anime

The prototypes build is ready and I was preparing a video for that post but I got a call today for a meeting tomorrow and I have to prepare some info TT_TT ... I'll post it tomorrow !

Lack of updates due to: - An event. (Pics) - Signed a contract to develop an app (ends July). 2 more apps in the queue - Improving and porting Void in the Sky (https://gamejolt.com/games/void-in-the-sky/406864) for PC and ??? (requires less time) - Still working on Soul Update

Quick note: - I had an issue with animations but it got solved. (For prototyping) - I just delivered a project for a client. I'm working on a boring but useful app for another client. I won't be able to post frequently (gotta pay the bills). #shooter

We are going from left to right. Why? the answer soon. (Don't you think that peeking ear is cute? ) - Limitations: I have to deliver 2 non-game related projects so I'm doing progress but slowly, I work on parts that help me relieve stress from work.

Paper prototype for the Leveling system based on a moral one finished! Unfortunately I can't share it since it is on paper, but tomorrow I'll start working on the digital one for the shooting part and if there is time this week I'll include this one on it
