Sometimes, when I'm working on POPGOES Evergreen, or my other responsibilities... I like to brainstorm ideas for small FNaF spinoff titles. Games that I could potentially pitch to Scott. For his permission and approval, but also maybe for an addition to the Fanverse. Because hey, living is not cheap, and neither is Evergreen's development. If I can keep things going by creating and selling cool products, while working with and paying talented people in the community, then why not? It's better than going back to being the guy who cancels stuff...
(To be clear, the Freddy Or Not team consists only of people who don't contribute to the POPGOES games. There's no effect on the development speed of Evergreen, just like with myPOPGOES).
Well, I pitched THIS game to Scott, and... he really likes it. He was happy for me to share it with you all, and he also gave special permission for Kellen Goff and Leon Riskin to contribute to the game.
Freddy Or Not is an unofficial Five Nights at Freddy's "attribute-deduction character guessing game". It currently has a huge database of 141 characters from FNaF 1, FNaF 2, FNaF 3, FNaF 4, Sister Location, FFPS, and UCN. Every character is hand-drawn by Shady Bear, who is an amazing FNaF fanartist you may recognise. In fact, every character is drawn TWICE because they each have special rare designs on top of their default art.
The concept of this game is not entirely original. It's my spin on websites like "Onepiecedle", "Marveldle" and many iterations of the format you can find on chardle.com. Though, fans of Five Nights do not have a particularly great option currently, so we spent weeks extensively researching (and fact checking...) data for as many characters as possible, to ensure the game can provide a fun and accurate experience.
This version of Freddy Or Not, on Game Jolt, is completely free and always will be. That being said, it will be updated with bug fixes (if that's necessary) but I won't spend more time on it unless there's demand from the community.
...But if there is demand, and I'm able to secure a paid (cheap) expanded release with Scott, then development of Freddy Or Not will move to a special new version that will include hundreds of additional characters in the form of toggleable "packs" (NOT DLC) for FNAF World, the Steel Wool games, the Fanverse, and more. Plus some kind of progression system and additional game modes that utilise the game's character database (which we've already thought about). The game would be a LIVING product, existing alongside the other FNaF games, updating its database whenever new official characters are introduced to the community. A supplement to the franchise, indefinitely! In theory, anyway.
I know the game is a bit unorthodox and simple. It's not going to be for everyone. But let me tell you, when I stream this game to my friends - FNaF nerds like many of you - there is genuine excitement! It is surprisingly entertaining, and not just for a quick daily attempt. It's easy to get stuck into it. And in a theoretical expanded release, I imagine hardcore fans could get truly addicted.
But hey, if it's not for you, then it is what it is. I wanted to try something new. If it doesn't work out, then I've got some other ideas to try.
PS: I hope you like Archie!
