What's going to happen with Undertale Green?

Introduction

Hi everyone! It's Migs here.

Sorry I've been silent about the development of the game and for the lack of news. The reason I haven't shared anything with you lately is because... well, there hasn't been anything to share. We have literally made zero progress regarding the game since the last devlog and because of that there was no progress to report.

The point of this devlog is to be totally upfront about what has been going on, to explain exactly what's going to happen from this point foward and to answer some questions people have been asking lately.

What happened?

The main reason for development stagnation is lack of motivation to write on my behalf. Sure, the rest of the team also hasn't been working on the game, but that's because there's nothing to work on if there's no script to be followed. The new script for chapter one is not even half finished and, with only that, there's not a lot the rest of the team can do. So development stopped. I kept telling myself I would eventually come back to it when I felt like writing again, but never ended up feeling like it.

What will happen?

First of all, I want to reassure you all that we are NOT cancelling this project. Everyone on the team (myself included) would love to see this project through and I know how many of you feel the same way. How are we going to fix it, then?

Well, I will be stepping away from writing. Other team members will take on writing, and I'm sure they will do an amazing job at it! I will keep directing the game and guiding the other devs through how I imagined the story to be, but we will now building the scripts together.

When will development resume?

I know you're very sick of this answer but... I don't know. The rest of the team is finishing up some stuff in other projects and there everyone will be ready to get back on track. But I don't know when that is going to happen, so all I ask of you is a little more patience until development finally resumes.

Will we get more frequent updates?

Yes!

Now that I'm stepping away from writing and focusing only on directing, I promise to be much more active around here and share progress a lot more frequently. (After developlment resumes, obviously)

However, if you want to follow the game even closer or have any other question I don't answer here, feel free to join us on the discord server.

Is the game still going to release in chapters?

I'm in favor of releasing the game all at once, when everything is done. I think Undertale Green will benefit from that.

However, I'm not the only team member, and despite being the director, I value way too much other team member's opinions, and something that's being discussed lately is the release of the remastered version of Chapters 1 and 2 and, after that, the full release.

This is still up for debate, and you will find out once a decision is made.

Can I help?

We are only accepting artist applications on this form right here.

We haven't yet picked a sprite artist. This isn't because we haven't found anyone good enough, but rather because, since we haven't resumed development, we decided to wait until then to pick an artist for the team.

So, until development is back on track, you still have time to apply!

That's it!

Sorry once again for the silence and I promise to be a lot less silent from now on.

I hope you have a great day.

Stay kind <3

Migs.
