Who are the Mid-Knights?

At this point, it’s fair to say that the initial reception to Static Town has been reasonable positive. 27 people have downloaded in the week or so it’s been up, and it’s received a rating that I can consider respectable. In short, it’s a moderate success. With that in mind, I thought it might be worth shedding some light on its deliberately bleak and ambiguous storyline… partially for the benefit of people who have already played it and partly to entice a few more curious individuals into downloading it. I’m cunning like that. Spoilers ahead, natch.

As those of you who have already completed the game know, the story references the fall of a group or organisation known as the Mid-Knights (a pun so obvious that I can’t possibly be the first person to use it). But who are these mysterious individuals, and what does their fall have to do with the horrific events of the game?

Like Victor Victorious (my previous, more colourful game), Static Town is really about events on a multiversal scale. It would be fair to say that the Mid-Knights belong to a different plane of existence than us corporeal beings. They fulfil a recondite yet essential function that 3-dimensional organisms do not have the language to properly express. Suffice it to say, that their fall triggered the collapse of an entire universe. It also launched a sort-of recruitment protocol to find an organic being capable of taking on the extra-dimensional cognitive functions necessary to reestablish the group.

This raises a more fundamental question: what caused the Mid-Knights to fall? Well, on this point, I can’t reveal too much (you never know- I might get a sequel out of this nonsense). All I’ll say is that there are forces that exist perpendicular to reality that Have Plans.

In the quest for accessibility, I'm adding Resurrection Shrines for players on the 'novice' end of the platforming spectrum.

In order to unlock the power of a Shrine, you must collect 3 'Souls' from your dead corpses! (the floating blue orbs)
