Game
Outertale (Project Spacetime)

With 5.03 on the horizon, and the big wave of attention towards the game passing, I want to say something

(spoilers - check article)

As the release approached, many people had expectations for the game, sometimes that led to excitement, other times disappointment, but either way, there's been an energy around the game that is finally waning off.

And when it does fully wane, this game will become what it aimed to be from the start.

---

Back in 2021, I didn't speak to many people, and I pretty much lived in my own little world. When I played Undertale, I was so enthralled by it, that it put me in this evergreen state of feeling like the characters and story was real, that persisted for many months. My memories from back then don't even feel like they took place in the "real world." When I think back to that time, I remember being in UT's world. That is physically where it feels like I was. I was THERE.

Of course, you can only finish Undertale pacifist so many times before it loses its magic, and I didn't want to stop feeling like I was with those characters. So, ideally, I'd want a fangame that takes the pacifist route of Undertale, retells its story, but gives some new moments to each character.

Sounds familiar, huh?

In my reflection post, I explained how other routes weren't initially added out of passion, and this is why the pacifist route is the exception. But sadly, Outertale (or something like it) didn't exist back then. Even the games that did, namely two old Underfell fangames, well, they always ended early, usually in the first area. I'd start to get back that feeling of being with them again, only for it to end.

If those games were fully made, and had the story resolve in a UT-like way, that would have made everything right.

---

So, what do I want this game to be from now on?

I want it to be a little page that, if someone gets in a similar situation that I was in, if they feel a deep connection to UT's characters, they can stumble on it, and lose themselves in this game, maintaining the feeling that UT's world and characters are real, even if for just a little longer.

For a little while longer...

It's alright.

Everything will be alright.

Those you came to love, you can be with them again, and perhaps show them an even brighter future than before.

In the spirit of my original dream, the 5.03 update will allow you to play the LV0 route in any timeline, and repeat it on the canon timeline indefinitely.

This character is called e^deki

They are a raccoon who doesn't strongly feel emotions.

They'll appear later in area 1!

Front and back sprite by @Joe98912 , side sprites by me. Animated by me.

(Side sprite might get ears re-worked soon)

2x size facial expressions for Iver are complete! Thank you to @gamebrielvoid for the concept art.

This wolfo is the boss (of the employees) at Readleaf Industries. Wonder what they'll think of you walking into the factory unauthorized...?

Here at mavis & co we take development very seriously

Return of the pipe puzzle from SOTS, now repurposed for Petrichor! Will be in the next demo. (this pipe layout is completely temporary and for testing)

tell your friends AND foes!! (art by @NerNot1 )

MORE dialogue sprites, this time for a previously mentioned goober. I still won't spoil anything, but they're used as Petrichor's app icon for a very good reason. This character now has the most dialogue sprites of any in the game! (26 total)

20/37 redleaf rooms decorated, dialogue and story improvements for the 2nd demo, and a simple change that I think gives the game a lot more FEELING

introducing COLORS! (each area will have a different main color, and variants for specific rooms if needed)

At last, it's time for the 2,000 follower special!
