This was amazing! This was an insane improvment on SMS 2 and I loved that game. The atmosphere was intense, I was on my toes listenting for the monsters and trying to find the relics. The unique more gruesome deaths are fun, they make the puppets feel more monsterous. I really like The Stalker's bird like movements in her animation and added vent crawling mechanic, gives her a lot of uniqeness she was missing in SMS 2 to set her apart from the Seeker. Seeing Tim Denson's House again was a fun throwback, it looks really good in this style. I was walking around the house looking at all the pictures and details, it made me nostalgic. I can't wait for the full game, hoping we see the other Foggle Friends in this style. 123 Slaughter Me Street holds a special place in my heart and I'm happy to see it coming back with this and Super Retro!
Bit Challenging But I Enjoyed that. Waiting for more Maps. 4/5
Some thoughts.
The game from what I played is a better 123 SMS 2. Not a hard task to be honest. However;
-The death animations drag on. I get the point is to have cool gory kills but there's a lot of empty time, these could benefit from cutting the dead-space and making certain parts quicker.
-The game's visuals are... I appreciate the effort, but this is NOT what PlayStation 1/Sega Saturn games looked like, if that was the intended style. Everything is so pixelated like I'm watching a sub-144p video. It leads to the game visually being a bit of a mess. It's also extremely difficult to see threats, which is a terrible design choice. I've only ever been able to know there's an enemy directly nearby via the eye turning red instead of actually seeing it until its 5 inches away from me.
-The house from 123 SMS 2 wasn't well designed for the limited visibility of this game. This leads to very often unfair situations where there is no chance of surviving. This is moreso the fault of 123 SMS 2 being a poorly designed game in general.
Overall, this is the best 123 SMS game by default and is a pretty good time.
IGS, if you're reading this, please do not charge more than $10 for this game. Don't do another $15 123 SMS 2.
Wow, this demo genuinely suprised me cause i'm usually not one for collectathon's or one that was like a huge fan of SMS but damnit i'd be lying if i said i didn't have fun with this demo.
Starting out strong with the games art direction, i really digged the low poly aesthetic, it was definitely pleasing to look at. Same goes with the enemies, they look WAY better here than how they did in SMS2 and are well animated, especially the death animations, i was definitely not expecting that, i was honestly expecting it to just be a standard "scream in your face" jumpscare, so imagine the shock on my face when i saw The Seeker rip out the protagonists arms out when i died the first time. Yeah big props on you Glitched Lizard for doing this, the death animations for all the monsters are freaking awesome!
I could say the same thing with the gameplay, again i'm not usually that into collecathon's but this game definitelly executes it well. Instead of having the map be your worst enemy, instead the enemies are a big threat that you have to be careful about, they're more smarter than i was expecting resulting in me dying quite a good number of times, and even though i was getting frustrated, i knew that each time i died that was my fault and not on the game, and this lead to me learning through trial and error i had to strategize a lot more utilizing the games mechanics properly, i was definitely worried when i saw that there was a stamina system but surprisngly it's pretty generous and i never found myself running out of it completely even when running away from enemies. But yeah the house took me about 10 minutes to beat with a total of 10 deaths to my name, yeah.
One last thing i have to praise is this games soundtrack, i don't know who composed it but they did a phenomenal job, from both the menu track the music during gameplay that increases tension the more relics you collect, it's some good shit right here and i hope there's more of it in the full version.
The only thing i could really criticize is maybe the level design of the house like, if you get caught in like the main parts of the house, you're pretty much guaranteed to die cause of how small and tight the hallways are, which is why i like to collect all the relics in that part first cause they are definitely the worst to get. The added areas though definitelly help a lot but i just wished that main area was a tad bit more manageable.
The game also seems to be very light on the story, maybe that'll change in the full version though.
Overall this is easily so far the best SMS game, it's a massive step up from the previous ones, and i'm definitelly looking forward to the full version, and i guess i gotta thank it for bringing back my interest in SMS.
the game wont open for me,what do i do? (I use BreeZip)
