Sonic: The Murdering Insanity is pretty good, for a Sonic.exe-like game that is.
There are numerous problems with the game itself, as well as the webpage that currently hosts the game.
First off, the name "Sonic: The Murdering Insanity" makes no sense, the words "Murdering" and "Insanity" do not work together at all. If anything you should have used "Sonic: Murder and Insanity". Secondly, the webpage has multiple lies put on display, it lists "Complex bosses" and "Voice Acting" as features of the game, therefore they should be in the game. However, these features do not appear in the game at all, and are even listed as "In the future". This means the developer is claiming there is a feature that currently does not exist. Which is a blatant lie the developer willingly put in, he/she/they should really consider looking up what the word "features" actually means and how people use it.
The game itself also has serious problems within it, the 2nd level is littered with 'beginners' traps', traps that can't be avoided unless you knew they were coming already. It first starts off with red spikes that are instant death for the player if they touch them. The second issue is at the end of the level when you are faced with two doors, one leads to a game over while the other lets you move on to level 3. Another beginner's trap, and just blatant unfun game design, you might as well send the player back to the main menu if they pick the wrong door. It also makes the player feel like they got a punishment they didn't deserve to get, it's one thing to fail a platforming segment, it's another thing to punish the player for not having the ability to look into the future. On the third level, you will find a key that you are able to pick up, however, if you do, you will die, another beginners' trap. At this point, I've counted 3 beginners traps, but in reality, the red spikes end up making at least 6 beginners' traps in one level alone, this adds up to 8 or more of these traps!
Poor game design aside, there are other issues with the game, on the third level you are able to search through trees to find items and required items to progress. But you must hold the 'X' button down for at least 5 seconds, which wastes a lot of time in the long run. You also need to backtrack on the third level to find some keys, and yet nothing has changed in the level to give us any excitement, or to at least look at something new. Backtracking is very rarely fun either way.
The story also has a few pit-falls within it, like in the demo we are never told nor is it ever hinted at what that demon is on the 2nd level, I seriously hope it's not Sonic.exe, or executor, or anything else that's overplayed and overpowered. There are also grammar and spelling issues littered in the game as well. "But after one night sonic realized that Tails is disappeared." is just an example of the poor writing, I highly recommend the writer look through his work multiple times to ensure he didn't make any serious flaws in his work, it's hard to fix significant mistakes made in a coded video game like this. Tails is also used pretty poorly, the game just wants to cut to the horror immediately, rather than letting us get to know the characters (or the creator's interpretation on the characters). Tails just goes missing and sonic has to find him, there isn't even a real hint to suggest that Tails is in the spooky mansion/castle, Sonic just explores it because Tails may be inside of it and because a spooky black creature hinted that he could be there. Is Sonic so dumb he's willing to listen to some creepy shadow?
It's important for me to note that this is all constructive criticism, I'm pointing out the flaws in the works so the developer/s can improve and make an even better game later on. I'm not harassing anyone with this post as I genuinely want to help the creator/s in question (I wouldn't have written a 30-minute comment if I didn't want to help, after all.).
If I had to rate the game, I would rate it a 7/10 if I had to compare it to other Sonic.exe-like games, but as it's own thing and separated from the previously mentioned Sonic.exe games, I'd really rate it a 4/10.
AWESOME!!! I can't wait for the full version... Also follow me.
Wow this game is amazing
remind me of Mario the music box game
So it's a scary Sonic without Sonic.exe?...I love this game!
