This game is based off the world of UNDERTALE, if you haven't played UNDERTALE yet, I recommend playing it before playing this game.
You don't need to know about other fangames related to this game, the game will explain the story throughout gameplay and intro.

Undertale: Cataclysm takes place after hundreds of Genocide routes; this eventually leads into the story of Dusttale and Dusttale: Last Genocide.
After sans and Gaster fail to take down the human hundred's times, Gaster eventually starts to develop a bioweapon, Codenamed "The Corruption".
After many more failures, Gaster finishes the weapon, with this weapon Sans and Gaster could finally defeat the human.
When Sans is affected by this weapon, he is able to Corrupt other monsters and humans, which when corrupted they are able to escape the loop.
With this new power Sans, Gaster, and Chara go on a rampage to

A - We do not know yet, hopefully between 2024 - 2026.
Q - How will the game play out?
A - The game will be played by chapters, which can be selected at the menu.
Q - Can I join the team?
A - Yes, when team applications are posted.
Q - How many endings will there be?
A - For now just one ending, which is the True Ending. More might be added in the future.
Q - How many chapters will there be?
A - Right now about 5 chapters will be in the game, more could be added or scrapped, it all depends on how development goes.
