What do you think?

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" is a very flawed argument, and is such a primitive thought I won't even entertain it. With that being said, I do have a few good things to say about Deepfall Dungeon.

In Deepfall Dungeon, you play as a semi-randomly generated character in a classic first-person dungeon crawler environment. Creepy dungeon, weird monsters, and fantastic loot. Nothing new up to that point. However, there are VERY important things either failing or nonexistent in Deepfall Dungeon.

My issues with this game can be summed up in two words; "Outdated" and "Boring." The game feels so 90's that it is PAINFUL. I love me a good bit of 90's throwback nostalgia, but the reason games like that are so popular nowadays is because they keep the old feel without losing the modern technology.

The music in this game is one of few redeeming qualities about it, and it does its job fairly well. When in battle, the music is what you would expect from any other RPG: upbeat fun, tempered by some tense vibes for good measure. As for the out-of-battle music, it's nice and foreboding, without feeling forced. Sets up a very good atmosphere, just like the rest of the game.

As I just stated, another thing Deepfall Dungeon excels at is atmosphere. Both eyes and ears agree that the game feels gritty and creepy at times, and that's something even a lot of horror games fail to do well.

The art is nothing to write home about, just some VERY 90's-esque pixel art reminiscent of something like Doom.

The part where Deepfall Dungeon doesn't just fail, but makes it unbearable, is the gameplay. Look, dungeon crawlers are really fun because they have a good chunk of luck mixed into the strategy. However, with Deepfall Dungeon, you have to remember our key words: "Outdated" and "Boring." It seriously feels like playing a little-to-no-budget PC port of an NES or SNES game.

The hit chance and combat variety is so based on chance, it's "Boring." Every time a monster appears, you dread the slow wait times between actions, and it feels so "Outdated." You wander around a mostly empty, poorly designed maze for what seems like ages, and it's "Boring." You miss your attack 4 times in a row, and wonder if this is what death feels like--I mean, and it feels so "Outdated." You finally BEAT THE LEVEL, AND IT'S BORING! What is this madness, where victory only numbs your mind?!

In conclusion, Deepfall Dungeon is a game that strives to give the player a feeling of nostalgia, but falls flat on its face and stays there watching grass grow. The gameplay is slow and awful, and nothing you do feels rewarding. I would recommend this to someone as a prank on them, but anyone who was seriously looking for a good game to play? No, not really. If you want some atmosphere, go for it. Unfortunately, that's all this game is truly good with, so I'll have to give it a 3/10. This is my piece of constructive criticism, if the rest of this wasn't useful: the game feels nostalgic enough, so focus more on making the gamePLAY more modern.

TL;DR: It's outdated, boring, and simply not a good game for anything besides atmosphere and nostalgia. 3/10 for me, and I wish I hadn't wasted so much time on what levels I did play.

it is fine i like the style but the you miss TOO MUCH!

I played the build, and I liked the graphical style with the painted textures. Some of the sprites popped out, like the skull torch thingy. The environments were kinda same-y, I would have loved to see more variation in them to differentiate the corridors from each other. The map system helped quite a bit, without it the game would've been way too frustrating. The controls could be set to WSAD for movement, but otherwise the UI was good. :)

It's a nice game but after 6 levels it crashed. Should have a save feature to be able to go on.

its alright
