Try to use star form before, you slow down a little and have enough time to slip over spikes before balloon returns.

I wrote the game in weekend for Ludum Dare 35: Theme "ShapeShifter"
You play as some alien form, that can shift shapes when needed. In basic form it run fast but fragile. Spikes can destroy it. Star form ignore spikes, but slower and can blow up balloons of gas and kill itself. But basic form ignores balloons.
For tight holes bar form is acceptable.
