I like the game; I think you should probably credit where you ripped the sprites and the music from, just so people don't think you're trying to pass them off as your own. You have good taste, though. Journey to Silius has awesome music!
Your level design is definitely a strong point.
I ran into a crash: if you cancel while saving, it throws an error.
I love your style of programming nuff said. I grew up playing NES and SNES and those were the days! : ) I see you were inspired by the Goonies 2 nes game and borrowed that theme for this project. If there was more time for this competition, I can see a lot of things to polish up but seriously dude in a week you have this much done is something amazing! I hope you keep working on this to make it shine more. Awesomeness!
The thing that definitely stands out the most in your game is the graphics. If you made them all, then kudos to you sir, I am jealous. I was little confused at first because I didn't realize that I could climb down vines. I think the main reason for my confusion is that not all vines can be used for climbing. Since I tried a couple and they didn't work, I assumed I couldn't and it took a while to realize where I needed to go. The game definitely is polished, though perhaps the gameplay was a bit slower pace than I prefer. I did feel a bit of a disconnect with this game being based on the theme "Chaos." Especially with how developed the game seems, it doesn't seem far-fetched that it had been a work in progress before the contest, and then mildly related back with the name of the gang. I'm not saying that is true, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't cross my mind. Either way, you have the whole retro thing down pat and it doesn't look like graphics will ever be a hindrance in your game making.
This was a project for the Contest of 2013 where "Chaos" was the theme. My idea of Chaos is a story about a gang who calls themselves "Chaos". In the story the gang throws the hero, Jericho, into a pit where there is no escape, at least they think. The other members of the gang hide out in these canyons waiting to take out Jericho.
The game is a open world to explore with a linear world. You go back and forth looking for items to help you get farther into the game. Your mission is to take out all the members and finally take out the Chaos leader, Black Snake, and escape.
This project was made as a throwback retro from the NES era. I once again use 8bit nes games sprites to create this project. It plays as a 2d platformer.
DIRECTIONS:
Move= Arrow Keys
Duck= Down Key
Attack = Z key
Jump = C Key
Pause = Spacebar
Change Weapons (Once you FInd them) = Digit Keys
HINT: When starting the game look for the knife to defend yourself. Go west when you can!
