Union

Inspired by the works of Junji Ito and H.P Lovecraft's horror stories, Union is a choice based visual novel set in the Australian town of Toowoomba.

Eddward returns to his family home, only to discover the town has been taken by a powerful and terrible force. He will uncover secrets and half-told truths that question the very origins of his home town.

As with other visual novels, dialogue drives the game onwards. Players will make choices on what to say, where to go, what to do resulting in five possible endings depending on your decisions.

Using a hand drawn art style with digital editing, Unions visual style accentuates a classic coming home story gone awry.

Return to your family's hearth, and discover the secrets and truths of Toowoomba. Then should you dare, face the unknowable darkness that lies at the heart of the town.

Technical aspects:

• All 3D scenes were modeled in Blender and exported into Unreal Engine 4.

• All 3D models were textured using GIMP (Free image editing software).

• The current main menu image is actually a real location. The tower is over-accentuated, but all placement is relatively accurate.

• Most of the towns locations are based off of real life, but for the sake of avoiding potential copyright (Or other), it has been obscured.

• All textures (Except for police hall and map of town) were painted using a mouse and non dominant hand.

• Initially the art-style was going to be completely 3D, but has been finalized into what it is now (Crude paper-like world).

• 10 Percent of ambience was obtained from open license audio profiles.

• All audio was finalized using Audacity.

• Although unfinished and heavily unrefined, Union is currently 1142 lines of code (Not including custom scripts such as transitions, custom audio channels, scrapped inventory etc).

Oh and:

• Union so far has 5 possible endings.

• There might be a few easter eggs...
