A time to remember all the lives that have been lost, for better or for worse. All the people who have risked their lives, and lost them, so that those of us in the US may enjoy the freedoms we have today.
As an American, I of course have a much more personal appreciation for those who have fought for our country, yet I harbor a deep admiration for all those, regardless of nationality, who were willing to risk their lives for the good of their loved ones at home; even if I myself don't think I could ever willingly put my self in a situation where I would have to pull the trigger on another human being, I am glad that there are those who can, and will risk their lives so that we can keep our own.
I know this isn't much like most of the posts I make, since most of my posts are about light, and humorous subjects, but as I said in the beginning, there is a time to laugh, and there is a time to cry; but even when we remember sad events, it is important that we never allow them to suck the joy out of our lives.
We always have something to be thankful for; and on a day like today, we can be thankful that we have not suffered the same tragedy that occurred that day.
Now, I do not wish to start a political discussion. There is a time and place for everything, and I think it's good, and important, to be able to enjoy games and chat, and make jokes without wondering about the political affiliations of the person on the other sides of the screen, but for all Americans, I think we can at least agree that this is a very important year for our country, and if you are old enough, I encourage you to make an educated vote. Look into the candidates, what they've done, and what they intend to do as much as possible, and make your decision after you have considered everything you possibly can.
In a time like this, it feels like everyone is at everyone else's throats, but what we really need to do is come together, now more than ever. That isn't to say we need to compromise what we believe to be right and just. Never. But rather to say, we need to be open, and have respectful discussions about things. Maybe not here, I'd rather have this be a place where we can forget all this, and just hang out; but we need to remember that people on the other side, and those in the middle (I feel the worst for them, they get it from both sides) are people too, and they have their reasons, whether true or false, I believe that most people really want to do the right thing.
Basically, when it comes down to it, love one another, be kind to one another, be respectful to one another, but always be willing to stand up for what's right.
I hope we can all agree on that.
Thankyou for reading, and as Tiny Tim said in A Christmas Carol; God bless you, everyone.
