1972 Playtest V2 is out! + changelog


I have become very unhappy with the state of the playtest as it stood. So I've went back and updated it in a lot of ways to better reflect the future of the project. Here are the changes:

Proud Mode

Proud Mode was more of an afterthought than anything, I keep saying that I'll add stuff to it later and well, I have. Bosses in Proud Mode are much more interesting, having higher stats and access to different sets of moves. They are much tougher so watch out. There may even be an additional fight waiting for you now...

I've also removed the 10-5% decrease in all stats while in proud mode. This feature did little more than arbitrarily make the game difficult without the player having any input.

Enemies

Something I planned to change much sooner were the enemies in 1972, unfortunately I lost access to the files for the new enemies I created so I've had to remake them. Honestly, the new random enemies I made are much better, each one has a gimmick it's based around. This should hopefully make random encounters much more interesting and less of a drag as you progress through the game.

Character Changes

I have completely remade Fredbear and Springtrap's skills redone their stats. Before they were a mess of ideas, not really falling into any solid archetype, making them unfun to use. So I've attempted to refine both characters to be more interesting. Fredbear will play more of a support role while Springtrap will be an speedy offensive attacker.

Along with this, I've removed the skills you obtain as you defeat cameras. The random moves that FAE gives the characters just isn't that useful most of the time as they were random moves just handed to the characters. Instead I've opted to give out Skill Cards that unlock an additional unique skill for each character. Hopefully this makes Fredbear and Springtrap much more fun to use in combat.

Trinkets

Trinkets were more of an afterthought than anything in the previous demo, so I've went and done a lot of changes to them. Now each character only has 1 trinket slot instead of 2. The Chestplate and Flashlight have been removed, they just don't fit super well. All of the trinkets have had their prices changed as well.

Some trinkets, like the Gold Coin, have had their downsides removed. These trinkets don't effect combat and mostly serve to help lessen the amount of time grinding for items, so a downside is useless. Some trinkets have been given buffs to be more useful, such as the Garlic Strain. These tweaks are not final, I am admittedly pretty bad at making and balancing trinkets so it is likely things will change down the road.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Burn deals more damage. 5% → 6%

  • Poison, Burn, and Bleed can no longer stack

  • Scream and basic attacks now deal at least 1 damage.

  • Replaced most sprites with new, much better ones. (credit: @lurkingclown )

  • New facesets for Fredbear and Springtrap

  • Adjusted the item limits on items.

  • Shops should be easier to navigate.

  • Added "Entire Cake" which revives an ally with 100% HP.

  • Slightly increased EXP needed to level up.

  • Springtrap now says "Oh sh*t" when encountering the restroom camera.

  • Fredbear and Freddy now get EXP from the restroom camera fight.

  • The warning screen upon opening the game is shorter.

  • Updated the textbox window, some menus will look better now.

  • Windowskin now changes between eras.

  • Updated the NW.js version to 0.49.2, this should monumentally increase the games performance.

  • Added Discord Rich Presence

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the trigger for Shadow Bonnie only being on 1 tile.

  • Fixed the collision on some objects in Purgatory.

  • Fixed JJ repeating dialogue.

  • Fixed the vignette not disappearing after defeating JJ.
