No, this isn’t some joke. This is in fact, a real reflection on this year and history of my fangame career as a whole.
In 2019, I made Five Dank Nights at Memes as a sort of way to make a fnaf fangame that would not get taken down by Scratch. And it did surprisingly well. 3000+ Views, despite being a poorly coded version of Fnaf 1. Then I made the second game and eventually started working on the third game at the same time. Some people who were starting creating fangames had asked if their fangames based off memes could be connected, which is how the “TDMU” had started. The second game released. Although the second game does have some new mechanics (Recharging Lights), the reason why the recharging mechanic was in the game in the first place was because I thought that was a mechanic in the original fnaf 2 (I had never played a real fnaf game or fangame until years later). But there was an original final boss I guess.
Then something happened after I finished the second game, I just started working on other things and had basically lost interest in working on FDNAM 3. I still had a lot of projects planned after (A FDNAM 4, FDNAM 5, a UCN game)
As time went on, I would have more interest in other project. These other projects were on a different account and had gotten much more popular than anything FDNAM related (10k+ views and 400+ followers). However, making those games were a lot more stressful for me then making FDNAM games. Schoolradi99 had started to become the main developer for FDNAM 3. At this point I would usually log into my old account every once in awhile just to check my messages. Then I would log out and go back to working on projects on the more popular non fnaf related account.
Now it’s 2022, one day I decide to log into the old account to check my messages, and something interesting had happened.
Someone had commented on the first FDNAM game, saying how it was “sad” that my game was featured in a video, with a link to something on YouTube. I had no idea what this person had been talking about. I clicked the video link, and that one video changed everything.
The video was from two years ago. It was uploaded from a channel called “Top 10 Gaming”
If you recognize that name, you may have seen a video by the YouTuber Uhyeah who had recently posting a video discussing the clickbait nature of Top 10 Gaming.
As for the video itself, what was it called? It was called Top 10 Worst Fnaf Fangames. My game was Number 3 on the list. Despite the video being horribly made (Not once is footage for my game used, at one point a screenshot from a completely unrelated game is shown) I do think the first two games aren’t very good. But this video had actually given me a LOT of motivation. I hadn’t made a fangame in years, but I decided to make one in 5 hours about Top 10 Gaming.
I had started playing a LOT of fnaf fangames to fully understand what makes a good fangame. However the one that gave me the most influence over FDNAM is probably the original Popgoes.
Not for having any sort of cool ideas of mechanics, but because I thought it was so cluttered with mechanics that don’t fit together. I then knew what I wanted for FDNAM 3, I wanted to make a fangame where all mechanics were connected in some way. This would work well with the gameplay being fnaf 3 based (having one lethal animatronic) and have a focus on one unique mechanic (getting motion from the cameras). I decided to completely restart the game. Making an original soundtrack. With the version made by Schoolradi99 being a legacy version while my version would be the revamped version. I got to work, and I had quickly made a lot of progress. I’m glad I did restart it entirely from scratch, the old version was filled with assets and just the first night alone has more than twice the file size than the full game.
This year was defiantly the year that I’ve made most progress on the game. 2021 was the year I made the least progress. I had also released another fangame called Baxters 4 that people really liked, it was the fastest I had ever made a game, and my games get better and better each game I make.
To be honest, most of my followers are still on scratch rather than gamejolt, Some people have still been waiting even after all these years.
Regardless if you have been a fan since the beginning, or if you found out about the game this year…
Thank you. 2023 is without a doubt, the real year the game will release. I will not plan a release date until after the game is finished, but the wait is finally coming to an end. We can finally see light at the end of the tunnel…
In my country, it will be 2023 in 8 minutes. Let’s make the new year something none of us will forget.
