Devlog #3 + New Gameplay Footage

New Art Style Integration

Hello everyone. The main focus of this devlog was to revamp the visuals, so there is not much new content except for a few things.

First, I have revamped the camera system, so characters are now seperated from the background, allowing for them to move while in the cameras (and breathe).

This revamping of the camera system also allows for particles and other such things (like the Zs of a sleeping character.)

All of the art of the characters has been replaced by new pixel art.

The art style can be switched from the old one to the new one, but I have not put that option in the settingseppe yet.

Minigames

I have made several changes to the minigames. First of all, I have updated the device you play the minigames on. You have the ability to switch back to the old one, similar to the art style.

I have also added the ability to taunt in every minigame. Most of the time, this serves no purpose. But if you are playing Giuseppe jump, you can use the taunts to get stars that are out of your reach. Taunts are activated by pressing T.

I have also added shadows to the tennis minigame in an attempt to make it somewhat easier. If it is still too difficult, there will be an option to turn off the tennis minigame in the extraseppe.

Another thing of note is the new battery meter, which depletes when you are playing minigames. If it fully depletes, your device will turn off until you use more batteries.

Next, I have added a new minigame...

Minigame #7: Test of Strengthseppe

(Suggested by @somebodyplayingames )

Test of Strengthseppe is based on the carnival game in which you hit a thing with a hammer. Hit space when the crosshair is in the green to go to the next round. Hit space when it is in the yellow, and you have a 50/50 chance of getting to the next round. Hit space when it is in the red, and you fail the minigame. Beat 3 rounds to win the minigame.

Inventory

The newest mechanic is the inventory. It was primarily intended just for Mariosheldonborg, but I have since added more functionality to it since its conception.

Every time you switch cameras, there is a chance that an item will appear on screen. Place your mouse on the item to collect it.

For every item, you can either use it or pickle it. Pickling the items is just for Mariosheldonborg, but using the items aren't.

So far, the only items with uses are:

  • The mystery ball, which ends the night instantly when used. I would recommend using it after collecting the star.

  • The pill bottle, which makes the Pill Evil Giuseppe of the night less aggressive.

  • Antonio's shoe, which makes Antonio less aggressive.

  • Jorts, which will make Lorenzo less aggressive.

  • Batteries, which will completely refill your battery meter.

I plan on giving uses to the other items, although some of them might not be helpful.

Recently had a neat idea to solve the whole art style debacle for those who still want their favorite art style included, so I'm trying to mimic the style of Super Mario World sprites.

Here's a Mario.
