According to the episode "Shanghaied", The Flying Dutchman's line about "mold growing on the ceilings and bugs in the sink" was a direct reference to Paul Tibbitt. Paul would often have some of the crew over to hang out and play video games at his home after work, and according to one of the writers, his bathroom had literal mold on the ceiling and spiders in the sink.
SpongeBob's "magic trick" gag was written by Stephen Hillenburg. According to C.H. Greenblatt, Nick Jennings did it once and Steve thought it was the "funniest thing in the entire world" so they "had to put it in the board." Carl and Aaron later joke that they were "happy to oblige."
in "Your Shoe's Untied", The football teams that are playing on the sports channel are the Tampa Bay Bandits and the Houston Gamblers from the USFL.
In "Something Smells", SpongeBob walks up to a building and says, "I just don't get it!" which causes the building to flee from SpongeBob's breath. He goes up to Patrick and says, "I just don't get it!" and Patrick says, "I don't either." This was an ERROR you can only find on the Home Video releases.
According to Aaron Springer, "Survival of the Idiots" considers this episode as the successor to "Prehibernation Week."
