Gameplay Tips + Secrets

Hi everybody! Bet you weren't expecting to hear from me again. Well, I have something kind of big to tell you all today, and by big I mean I'm going to spill all the details of this game's gameplay to you all. Originally I wanted to be secretive about it so the surprises held within would catch players off guard and throw them in for a loop, but I think I was inadvertently too successful with that and it drove some players away because they couldn't figure out how the game actually worked. But I'm here to fix that now, and tell you guys everything about how the game works. I wasn't really going to do this at first, but... the game's over a year old at this point, I really should be past the point of caring about keeping secrets for what is essentially a very short and silly game.

Anyways, let's begin!

Part 1: The Basics

There's not really all that much to know about what you can and can't do in this game. Once you're in the office, there's two things you can do: watch your cameras and use your chip bag.

To toggle your cameras, press the space bar. Clicking on the camera buttons will show you the different rooms, but there's not really anything else worth paying attention to on the monitor besides The Chair Man's location.

Next, the chips. You can press C to toggle the chip bag up and down, you can press E to eat a chip and restore about a third of your hunger meter, you can click your chip bag to pull out a chip, right click to remove a chip from your cursor, and you can press S to shake your chip bag. I'll explain the importance of that later, but one last secret thing I should mention is that The Chair Man can smell your chips whenever you have them out, so his AI gets a small boost whenever you're holding them.

Part 2: Driving Away The Chair Man

I really thought the tips would be enough to instruct players how to drive him away once he reaches your office, but I still saw some people struggling to understand this part. Fortunately, this explanation isn't very long.

First, if The Chair Man appears on the left side of your office, all you need to do is to watch your cameras until he leaves. Sometimes this can take a while, but just be patient. He'll go to camera 5 between the start of the night and 3 AM, but past 4 AM he will either go to camera 3 or 4 instead.

Second, if he appears on the right, pull up your chip bag, click on it to grab a chip, then click on The Chair Man to give him one and make him go away. However, at 4 AM he will secretly take two chips instead of one, and past 5 AM he will take three chips.

Part 3: The Rat

Not to be confused with the one from Five Nights at Candy's, this rat is an actual rat. Once it reaches 2 AM, it will become active and it will have a chance of crawling into your chip bag. If it goes in there, you'll be able to hear it making little sounds and occasionally eating a few of your chips. To make it go away, pull up your chip bag with C and shake your chip bag with S repeatedly until it decides to go away. However, The Chair Man is aggravated by the sound of the chip bag shaking, so whatever you do don't shake it when he's right outside the office or there's a slight chance that he'll kill you instantly.

Part 4: FIND ME

Starting at 4 AM, there's a chance that the lights might start flickering and a strange electric noise fills the air. This means that The Chair Man wants you to find him on the cameras, and quickly. You'll have around 15 seconds to spot him three times, and once you see him you have to stare at him until static briefly shows up on the footage and he moves to another camera. There's also a chance he'll stay on the same camera he was already on, so you can get him twice or even three times in one go. While the FIND ME thing is in effect, The Chair Man's ordinary AI is interrupted, so he won't progress any further towards you while he makes you find him. So that's nice.

Part 5: Phantom Chair Man

I call it Phantom Chair Man because past 5 AM there's a chance that when you click on a camera, The Chair Man's face will be covering almost the entire screen. If you see this, click on a different camera or close your cameras immediately to avoid getting killed instantly. This can also happen during FIND ME, but he will never cover up where The Chair Man really is during this time.

Part 6: Tensions Rising

Due to this being a game with only one night to beat, I designed it in such a way that it gets progressively harder to beat as you get further in. But I already mentioned so many details about how things get ramped up in difficulty as the night goes on, so what could be left to mention at this point? Well, two things. First of all, both The Chair Man and the rat get boosts to their AI as the night goes on, making their movements slightly faster the closer you get to the end. And besides that, there's perhaps the cruelest secret I baked into the game:

The game's final hour is twice as long as a normal hour.

Yes, I did this entirely intentionally to mess with people. Feel free to pick up your torches and pitchforks if you want.

Part 7: The End!

Thank you to everybody who has played my game, and I hope this little guide comes in handy to anybody out there who still hasn't beat it yet who really wants to. I'll see you all later! ...Maybe. Who can say for sure?
