Hello everybody, welcome to my second update post! I'm really blown away by how well the previous one did (thanks to all of you who spread the word!) and now I'm ready to keep this train rolling. Let's get down to business, shall we?
Computech (Early Development)
I'm gonna do the best that I can to give you guys some more information as to what exactly this game will be about. I feel like my initial post might have been pretty vague, so I'm here to add some more details as to what you guys can expect. After all, how can I expect you guys to look forward to something without any clue of what it is? In the absence of better visual representation of it, I feel like this is the least I could do.
While most other games out there that I've seen have more of a focus on doing nothing but surviving, that isn't the kind of approach that I have with this project in particular. Rather than having gameplay that's almost exclusively based on reactions, I'm aiming on my game being about discovery and experimentation. There's lots of things to be found, but there's also dangers lurking around the place that aren't obvious. It's going to be hard to know what you can and can't trust, since everything seems off in a way.
What you'll need to concern yourself with the most in the massive school that you work in are the main classrooms and their unsettling teachers. There's lots of learning activities that need to be tested, and the teachers themselves need to be tested as well. After all, when the students are going to be taught by robots, it would only make sense to make sure that they aren't... confused in any way. It would seem that they've picked up some bad habits...
As far as the development side of things go, I'm still very early on in the process and huge, significant updates may be few and far between until I've gotten some more hands on deck. This game's pretty big in scope and scale, and although I'm trying my hardest to make some big movements with it, it's a very difficult task for me by myself. This project means a lot to me, and I want to make sure that it's as good as it can be by the time it releases... whenever that may be.
So if you haven't already, consider applying with the information listed further down this post or tell people you know! I know I'm not the only one who wants to see this game happen, so let's all make it a team effort!
Also, here's the thumbnail picture without the text. Pretty cool, huh? I think it's the best render I've done in a great long while!
Five Nights at Computech: Classic Edition (Programming Beginning)
As for this project, I mentioned before that I had all aspects of the game planned out, the rest of this game's journey is mostly going to be about programming everything and creating all the assets for it. On the programming side I'm getting the game's basics in place like looking around and experimenting with perspective, but I'm having a few issues that I'm hoping I can fix before long. I recently decided to make a switch back to GameMaker, so I'm still getting used to things.
As for the assets, I feel like that's a more interesting story. This game's going to be mostly 2D, but how I'm making it work is that I'm placing down placeholder props and things in a 3D space and then drawing over the renders to give it a really cool effect. It takes a while to get things matched up just right, but I think it's a pretty cool process. What do you guys think?
I may have mentioned this before, but I just want to remind you guys that this is going to be my main project until I get some more assistance with the bigger version of Computech. This game is something that I can accomplish with enough time and effort, and it's something that (although I wouldn't prefer it) I could do mostly on my own. But I could always use some more help, so please take a look down below!
Help Wanted!
I'm still on the lookout for applicants to assist with my pursuit of game development, so I just want to remind you guys of the kinds of things I could really use right now! More kinds of positions may become available later, but for the time being I'll shorten this up to things that I could use right now:
Programming
Environment Modeling
Prop Modeling
Additional Modeling
2D Art
Concept Art
Just like before, if you're interested in applying for anything, please contact me at either:
My email ([email protected])
or my Discord account (silver.t.slates)
And if you can't apply or don't want to, that's okay! If nothing else, just make sure word keeps going around, okay?
In Other News
Before I begin with this segment, I just wanna say that it was really interesting to see the poll results of the last post play out. For a while they were pretty even, just barely passing each other time and time again, until finally it was revealed that around two thirds of you would like to see what else I like to get up to! That makes me really happy, because I don't know how many of you were interested in me outside of my FNaF stuff. So, I suppose I'll show you all a little something!
One of the main things that I really enjoy doing is creating characters, and character designs and character personalities are always something I enjoy tinkering with. I've gone through several different kinds of ideas for Computech as well, with some working better than others. Actually, I kinda want to show something off right now related to that...
Meet the former main antagonist of Computech and its planned sequels! This was back during a time where basically everything was different to what it is now, and the story could get w i l d at times. I'd stuck with this particular character and the ideas surrounding it for a long time, sort of because I was biased towards it because of its cool appearance. But once I really started thinking about it... its actual role in all the games was really flimsy and it worked better without it honestly. So, it got the axe and I did some major overhauls of the game as a whole to make it a better experience overall, to the point where it was unrecognizable from what came before. And that, dear readers, is why I'm working on two versions of Computech (both of which do not include this character). If it weren't for this character, I wouldn't have been able to assess that I had two different visions for the same project that were butting heads for each other. Think that's confusing? Yeah, I can't blame you.
But I don't want to make this section entirely about Computech, there's more that I have to show you as well! Recently I've been redesigning some old characters of mine, and here's a few that I got done not too long ago:
If you couldn't tell, the kinds of things I like to create can be a bit all over the place. But in my opinion, that just helps me keep things fresh and it also lets me avoid falling into the same patterns of thinking when it comes to my projects. After all, if I didn't innovate with Computech, you guys would have a random purple robot as the "main villain" when it's just a glorified cameo basically...
But that's all I have to say for today, and I hope you guys enjoyed this little change of pace!
Q&A
Well, it would seem that nobody had any questions to ask on my last post, but that's okay. I'll keep this part of my posts available for whenever it's needed! Never be afraid to ask any questions, because I'd love nothing more than to answer them!
The End
I just want to take this time to thank you guys once again for your ongoing support, because making games and creating things is more than just a hobby for me, it's part of who I am and it's really important to me that I do it. I hope you all have enjoyed the update, and I'll see you all again on November 11!
TL;DR
Programming and asset creation has begun on Five Nights at Computech: Classic Edition, which is my main project for the time being. Computech will be having slow developments in the meantime, at least until I have a larger team to make development on it more sustainable. Remember that if you want development to go quicker, please consider applying for a position on my games or to spread this post around to people you know!
