Hello and welcome to my first Devlog of the latest iteration of my game.
A little history to start off with:
In 2015 i had challenged myself to a 24 hour game dev marathon, with the purpose to learn myself how to make games. The only skill i carried with me back then was programming in C#, it was the first time i really sat down to work with, and learn how to use Unity 3D.
I ended up with a partial map using free assets, an enemy AI that was semi-intelligent, and the key items: doors you needed to pick. I named the game “I am the Locksmith” as an appreciative nod to Markiplier and my favorite sentence of him… “WHERE’S THE BLACKSMITH!”.
During the years this game has gone through several iterations, redoing the map, redoing code, and lastly, redoing the setting and player motivation.
Originally the setting was an old insane asylum, where you were a locksmith called on to an emergency job. The locks mysteriously became damaged after a power outage and the security crew wanted to switch shifts. This story however did not make much sence, as the player character could have abandoned the job as soon as first contact with the creeper has happened (motivation).
Throwing ideas back and forth with a friend about this, eventually we came up with another cliché. An abandoned facility, with experiments most terrifying. What happened inside, is up for the player to figure out (or not).
For this devlog, i wanted to explain a little about the beginnings of this project. Currently i am starting up the “commercial” side of this project, trying to get it’s name out into the open and gaining some interest. Any further progress on the game will be reported in this devlog in the form of screenshots, posts, and even videos.
Now without furter delay, a couple of teaser images on this project.
