I think it was in 2016, but I was introduced to GameJolt around the same time I was introduced to a famous YouTuber named Jacksepticeye.
My introduction of Jack started off with what might be a lot of other people's introduction to Jack: "ALL THE WAY - Jacksepticeye Songify Remix by Schmoyoho". After I watched that video, I went from his first episodes of Happy Wheels to his old "Short indie horror games" playlist where I found a video titled "IMSCARED: A Pixelated Nightmare - EXTREMELY CLEVER HORROR GAME - Complete Gameplay/Commentary".
As I watched the video, I was baffled at the concept the game Imscared (2012) was going for, having you look through generated text files the game creates for clues on certain parts of the game. I knew I had to play it, so I went to this site, made my account, and downloaded the game.
Ever since, I've been browsing for games to play and have made some of my own: Mox and Mox II (we don't talk about Project Mantis). I am currently making Mox III, but that might take a while because that was a school project that used Greenfoot, a Java-based program. So I will have to manually port the game from Greenfoot into Game Maker: Studio 2 in order for it to be distributable (otherwise you'd need to download Greenfoot to play it).
Here are some of the developers and their games that got me interested in GameJolt:
@MyMadnessWorks (Imscared: A Pixelated Nightmare)
@Vidas_Salavejus (Timore series)
@revolab (7Days)
@MY5TCrimson (Sonic.EXE)
To those developers I mentioned, I thank you for drawing people like me to this site as this will always be one of the best places to publish and get indie games. I hope that you will continue your adventures and do what you love the most.
