I wanna hear y'all's opinion on this

Good morning, Gamejolt! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and here's to a Happy New Year!

So... this game. Been in the works for quite a long while at this point, huh? To be perfectly honest... I don't regret that I've been taking the game's development slowly up to this point, as I *am* proud of how the game is turning out, and I understand that good things take time to make. But. To be perfectly honest, I am somewhat starting to be a little bit frustrated with how long everything is taking to make. When I initially announced the game, I said I was shooting for a May 2026 release date, but I have been doubting whether or not I'll be able to hit that, and it feels frankly kinda ridiculous for a game that I've been working on since July. I really wasn't kidding when I said the scope of the game was quite large, and a pinch of burnout from working on this for months has been starting to catch up with me.

All of that to say, I have been trying to revise my vision of the game, and have been considering cutting out certain minor things that might not be necessary for the game, at least for the time being. So, I figured it might be best to directly ask you guys, and see what you think would be best for the game!

OPTION 1:

Release the game earlier, but in a slightly rougher state. Don't get me wrong- I don't want to rush the game or pump it out half-finished! Most of everything would sill be largely complete, without any chunks missing from the game's main story, but certain bonus features and secrets might be missing, and there may generally a bit less polish on the game. All the missing content would be added in updates that'd I'd hopefully begin rolling out not long after the game's release, and I'd also use these updates to clean up the game a bit to generally make the experience more pleasant.

OPTION 2:

Release the game in a better state, but after a longer development time. This is the current plan that I have been following up to this point. The game would include all of the bonus, hidden secrets I have planned for it from Day 1.

Note that regardless of which option wins, the game's release is still months away- I'm far from done. I'm just trying to plan out in my head roughly *how many* months it'd be :)

Also note that either way, I may still end up sticking to the original plan. It all depends on how fast development is gonna be able to keep moving along.

So... Yeah! That's about it. Have a great day!

Gonna be out of town for the weekend, so here's a bit of a smaller post. Mickey's sprites briefly actually had an earlier design, that had fewer frames and much rougher lineart. Quite glad I went back to redraw them- I think they look a lot better now!

Abandoned? That sounds... familiar.

Guys, I don't think this is the game I meant to download

Mae Borowski is the main character of Night in the Woods! It's an adventure game that tells the story of her return to her hometown of Possum Springs. She was confirmed as canonically pan in a social media post by the game's creator Scott Benson.

What is this place? Where am I going?

Happy Halloween! Hope you've been feeling frightened this evening. For this year's costume... I have become Mickey himself. No gun because I couldn't find a good looking one, but Relapse ain't ashamed to use a knife either. Had a lot of fun with this!
