You can haunt Item Frames, finally giving invisible item frames to survival Minecraft. That’s right, if you place a Haunted Item Frame down, it will initially be opaque and green, but if you place an item inside it, the frame will completely disappear. I’ve seen some extremely clever uses of invisible item frames (you should check out /r/DetailCraft for some examples) and I think it’s a shame that they don’t exist in survival, so here’s a way of introducing them to the game. Fun fact, we accidentally showed the sprite for Haunted Item Frames when talking about the Haunted Paintings in Part 1.

Speaking of, if you put a painting into a Haunting Table, you’ll get a Haunted Painting. Like I mentioned in part 1, they will spawn in Haunted Castles, but you can also craft them with a Haunting Table. Haunted Paintings feature new, spooky designs, and maybe some of them can be animated or change over time. Imagine a head turning, or eyes moving. I think some of them could even give hints at what lies in the Underworld, or some hidden lore about the ghosts or the Gore. On top of this, Haunted Paintings also act as spawn points for normal Ghosts, though this can be nullified with nearby Pink Salt Blocks. If you want to somehow create a Ghost farm, which I imagine is totally possible with a lot of Pink Salt Blocks at the bottom of a pit, then Haunted Paintings are going to help a lot with that.

Also, Petrified Wood. You can add ectoplasm to any type of wood in a Haunting Table to create Petrified Wood, which is the non-flammable, blast-resistant wood I mentioned earlier. I think a lot of people will appreciate this block’s unique style and properties.

Next is Haunted Buckets. This is a bit of a silly one, but I think it could help players out a ton. Haunted Buckets, despite looking almost exactly like normal buckets, can actually hold three times as much liquid inside it. On the front of a Haunted Bucket is a small glass cutout that shows how much liquid is inside the bucket, and you’ll be able to use this item to pick up three of the same type of liquid without taking up more inventory space. Picking up lava and then water won’t give you a bucket of obsidian though.

A nice bonus: You can also get Soul Torches, Campfires and Lanterns through a Haunting Table. These items will already appear in Crypts, which means this update makes them obtainable without visiting the Nether, but this will make it even easier to get them. Though I suppose getting Soul Sand might be easier than blessing a weapon and then killing a ghost… But whatever.

If you use ectoplasm on a Grave Stone in a Haunting Table, you’ll get a Crypt Stone. This is the type of stone that indicates where a Crypt is hiding under a graveyard, if you remember that from the Part 1 video. Well you can make as many as you want with a Haunting Table, though they are completely decorative. Maybe you can prank your friends by placing one in a Graveyard before they’ve reached it, and then placing lava underneath instead of a crypt. Hilarious.

Next is Haunted TNT. This is something that Reepers will also drop from time to time. If you detonate Haunted TNT, it will deal normal damage to nearby mobs and players, but it will not break any blocks. I imagine this could be very useful for farms, fighting bosses, and maybe PVP.

And lastly there are Haunted Chests. These are similar to trapped chests, if you even remember them, but they’re more automatic. The UI of a Haunted Chest only has ten slots, and it can only accept ectoplasm. Each of these slots determine how much damage the Chest will deal to the next person who opens it. If you place the maximum amount, being 10 ectoplasm, then it will deal 10 damage (which is 5 hearts, lowered with armor) to whoever opens it next. It’s a silly, simple way of adding what is basically a mimic to Minecraft. Is it too strong, or too weak? I’m not sure, so let me know what you think. Haunted Chests, like trapped chests, are also possible to distinguish from normal chests if you look closely at their latch.

I explored some other ideas, which were ultimately scrapped. Originally the Underworld had a timer (like drowning) which prevented you from staying in it for too long. There were giant pillars called Pause Pillars, with Pause Blocks at the top, and if you stood on the Pause Block you could freeze the timer and get a look at your surroundings. There was Haunted Armor which slowed down the timer by half if you wore the full set. This whole concept was just too limiting so I removed it.

There were also Nightmares, a new mechanic where sometimes when you slept you'd be teleported to a dreamy variant of the Underworld where you'd have the option to face off against monsters on a giant Sleepstone pillar without any of your gear. Essentially a gauntlet with the chance of winning cool loot. If you died, you'd wake up. You could jump off the pillar if you don't feel like fighting. It's a bit like Eventide Island in Breath of the Wild. With that came the Dreamcatchers (which prevented Nightmares) and the Haunted Bed (which guaranteed them).

I am pretty sure that's it!

Thanks everyone for reading and giving your feedback. I'm going to try making a collection of slideshows to go on TikTok with a super abridged version of ALL of Ghosts & Graves. I appreciate that some of you were patient enough to read through all of this and come back each day for every part.

If you have any questions, let me know, but bear in mind that this was all created a looong time ago and I may not remember (or even agree with) the shit I came up with back then. Thanks again!
