My full FNaF Movie review

Yesterday, I had the chance to watch the Five Nights at Freddy's movie. Here on the platform, I'll share my thoughts on the film.

Ah, the FNaF Movie. Directed by Emma Tammi, and Produced by Jason Blum and Scott Cawthon, the FNaF Movie is a videogame movie adaptation that has been in the works for about 8 Years, having many, many scripts throughout the years, aswell as a change of studios between Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures. So...was all of the development hell worth it? Let's find out!

PLOT

Unlike most of what FNaF has to offer nowadays, the plot of the FNaF Movie is actually quite simple. It follows Mike Schmiditch, a security guard that has had a track record of being notorious on the job. After a dire situation shows up, Mike takes up an offer to be a Night Watchman over at Freddy Fazbear's, a seemingly abandoned pizzeria that shut down after Five Children vanished.

The plot is actually very simple, effective and easy to follow. Most of the characters each have their own motivations on doing what they're doing on the film, and that's effective.

TOTAL STORY SCORE: 8.5/10

ACTING

The acting in the FNaF Movie is definitely one of it's strongest aspects. Immediately, when they got Josh Hutcherson and Matthew fucking Lilard for the film, I knew that the acting was going to be stellar, and they absolutely did not disappoint. Josh, in the role of Mike, delivers as this man trying to let go of his past and move on from his demons, being unable to let go but knowing he's forced to do so.

Piper delivered as Abby, a cute little sister of Mike's, being as hopeful and optimistic as any kid her age. Elizabeth also delivered as Vanessa, a woman only trying to help with her very own internal demons. And of course, Matthew Lilard, as the mysterious Career Counselor.

TOTAL ACTING SCORE: 9/10

DIALOUGE

I will admit, this is one of the weaker points. The dialogue in the film is very...wanky. It's stiff, unnatural. It's not the actor's faults - they delivered very well, but the way this dialogue was written felt like exposition books rather than actual people having normal conversations. I am aware that...alot...is required to understand the story of the film, but it's really very, very hard to take the dialogue seriously.

TOTAL DIALOUGE SCORE: 5/10

CINEMATOGRAPHY

The Cinematography is one of my favorite parts of the film, definitely. Every single moment is shown in the literally most perfect shots throughout the entire movie. Each shot has a reason to WHY it's being shot that way. Either to show a little hint or foreshadowing in the setting, or to look at every single children's drawings, or even to see the animatronics walking in the background to find their next victim. The Cinematography simply helps for the suspense of the film, something other films don't take advantage off of.

Also, I really like the shots of just the pizzeria, they're just so calming and very terrifying, honestly.

TOTAL CINEMATOGRAPHY SCORE: 10/10

EDITING

The Editing on the film, I can say, is also very good. I think that keeping the film at a 1 Hour and 50 Minute mark was a VERY good choice, instead of the 3 Hour mark the film was initially going to last on. The story is already simple enough, and the editing helps by making it's pacing help the plot progress, and help the audience still enjoy the film they're currently watching. Some effects, like the cupcake jumping to Max's Brother (as seen in the trailer) do look a little weird, but the editing is overall very decent.

The practical effects, especially the animatronics themselves, also look AWESOME. They look authentic, they look and behave like actual animatronics from the 80s...it's just really cool seeing them alive.

TOTAL: 8/10

SOUNDTRACK

The Soundtrack is somewhat lackluster. My complete respects to the composers, but it doesn't...feel. It doesn't have anything to sort of, make us think it's super spectacular. Have the soundtrack of Halloween, for example, it has this very synth vibe to it, something that makes it sound almost more mysterious. The Movie's soundtrack sounds eerie, yes, but is it anything really THAT special? No.

TOTAL: 6/10

TOTAL SCORE: 77.9/100

CATEGORY: WATCH AT LEAST ONCE.

Well, that was my review on the FNaF Movie! I hope this has gotten you somewhat more excited for the film. I actually had a ton of fun writing this, so I'll probably continue writing my JR's, Tealerland, Post-Shift 2 and Grizzly's VR reviews very soon.

Until next time.
