FNAF 3's character pick was the definition of a no-brainer. It's SPRINGTRAP, literally one of THE most popular and iconic characters in the series! The Phantoms just don't compare, even the more notable ones like Phantom Freddy or Phantom BB just don't have the notoriety that Springtrap has. So with that, PLUS the fact that EVERYTHING in FNAF 3 specifically revolves around him, and you can see why I went with him. Sorry Phantoms, maybe one day I'll draw y'all again...
So FNAF 3 has probably got to be the FNAF game I've changed my opinion on the hardest. I used to think the game was the WEAKEST of the original 4, but now I think it might actually be my second favorite (FNAF 2 will ALWAYS be above everything else)! I think it's because when I was younger, I just saw FNAF 3 as a less scary version of FNAF 1, and while I DO still believe that to some extent, now I recognize that FNAF 3 really is pretty special. It had a unique cast of characters (Springtrap being the only true animatronic in the game while the Phantoms were just distractions), the pure sense of being in a gross, dirty office with nowhere to hide, and most notably, THE LORE. This game legit felt like a finale to FNAF, and while of course, we would later get games that would expand the story (for better and for worse), I'll always consider FNAF 3 to be the end of the "simple" storyline, if that makes sense. It was the last game to deal with William Afton just being known as the Purple Guy, the missing children's souls were freed, and we saw the entire legacy of Fazbear Entertainment being burned down in a poetic fire. It just felt so... complete. I consider everything else after that as being either way too confusing or just too sci-fi for my personal tastes. Of course, FNAF 3 ain't perfect, let's not get it twisted (from Springtrap just ignoring audio lures sometimes to the Phantom being really annoying/having missed potential, and the good ending being REALLY specific to get without a guide), but despite all that I STILL think it holds up well, especially in the age of FNAF fangames which try to change up the formula. Hope you all enjoyed this little retrospective!
