I had to switch to article because my post is too long ... ANYWAY.
I personally enjoy the use of less jumpscares because it makes up for it in actual psychological horror, which is insane, because these days, mascot horror isn't that scary anymore (but more recent FNAF games are still peak, love you Scott and Steel Wool ).
I loved the house part, where you had to go through these corridors of what looked like a deserted family home that just stretched on and on. It gave me PT vibes, because the HUD and the GrabPack were seemingly... gone, and there wasn't really much instructions on what to do.
Throughout that section you just wandered to try to find an exit, and these disturbing news reports played from the radio, and some of them were absolutely sickening (iykyk).
It DEFINITELY affected how I saw the house... what seemed like the hallways of an innocent family home started to look more and more like a slaughterhouse to me. I started to question how innocent Elliot Ludwig really was.
And then the occasional interruptions where the reporter just says in a horrifying voice, "DON'T MOVE. NOT ONE INCH."
Not to mention the subtle background noise of a child wailing... sent shivers down my spine, especially in this context. And when you finally "escape" you watch a tape that starts off all friendly, describing the Playtime Co. family...
And then it starts to target you.
Woah, Playtime Co. Tape Guy, what did I ever do to you?
The person speaking in the tape starts to describe your situation. A previous employee coming back (possibly out of guilt?) to cleanse his sins. And then the cursed Huggy Wuggy jumps out of the TV and RIPS YOU APART.
(I must say, I could see the flesh in its mouth, and it was not pleasant. But I guess that's good. It is a horror game, after all.)
Overall, as an (aspiring) dev, that section FOR REAL got me taking mental notes. And I'm not even halfway through yet!
Amazing, amazing, AMAZING job, Mob Entertainment! You have earned my respect as both an (aspiring) gamedev and a general gamer. Kudos.
Oh, and also...
MICHAEL!!! I TOLD YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM PEAK FOR AT LEAST A FEW WEEKS! DAMN IT!
