Release plan for First Impressions

Hey all! I just want to make a quick post about the planned release of the game so I can pin this post on the gamepage.


There are currently two releases planned for the game:

Demo

This will contain the full first day start to end with every character's first hangout included and 1 of the 8 planned side quests (don't hold me to that number)

full_release.png

Full Release

This will contain all 8 side quests and every characters full route. It will also be completely free to download since I am doing this for fun and practise, though I am considering making it "Name your price".

(Basically giving you a donate button if you want, though it will still be free.)


There could also be an update to the game with everything I couldn't add because of the 86 day time constraint in the form of a "V2" (with V1 still available)

Besides that, there's also one more plausible release I'm considering

DMG Edition

The whole game with all the sprites and backgrounds fixed up along with gameplay watered down as little as possible to work on the DMG Game Boy (there's actually a lot more differences than just the Color having colour between the two handhelds)

Problem(s):

  • Gameplay could be hard/impossible to replicate perfectly

  • Just might not feel bothered

  • Overall a 50/50 chance of it happening

Next up

Started putting together the first day of game.

A bit worried about space cartridge space since I'm at 140 KiB of 4MB...

If it comes to it I might have to simplify the colours and dialogue. I'll see with time though...

Finally got around to making the actual protagonist lol.

This is Ive! The (almost) blank slate you'll use to interact with the world

Doesn't he just look as cute as a button with his dead, empty eyes staring into your soul~? ❤️

Got a decent bit of dialogue done today...

Until GB Studio decided to crash when I tried to do one more build just before I saved to take a break T_T

On the plus side though... HUB Lily! :)

It only took about an hour, so I didn't lose too much progress...

Bit of a busy day today so I didn't do much unfortunately...

I will share this screenshot for screenshot saturday though, including Aya's shrunk HUB version (top right).

Tomorrow is strictly coding more of the Day 1 intro scene before the first hang-out.

Did more sprite work and a bit of writing today, but the big achievement was coding this intro segment and the GB/SGB/GBA detection. There's a few unique messages like this you have a small chance of seeing on opening the game.

(Any lag is because of OBS)

Coded and made music for a menu and file select (inspired by Kirby's Dreamland 2)

I also have 3/6 of the main characters sprite sheets done ( until I need new ones for specific stuff I'll write later)

Finally I have 4/6 of the first day hang-outs written.
