Save data + level completion/unlocking

Today I did a huge breakthrough! Not only you can now properly unlock new levels after beating the previous ones... but also your progress can be saved! And it's automatic!

The game saves after you complete a level.

I'm running the game on the Visual Boy emulator, therefore the emulated colours are quite... eyestraining

This is a screenshot taken on the emulator. As you can see, it shows the battery load message when you open the game after you played it before.

It saves the levels you beat (which now they are required to unlock the further levels) and the medals you collected in them.

I made a Youtube video that kinda explains this process.

Forgot to show off the cake themed level with its final tileset!

Before the long development pause from months ago, I still managed to finish 2 sections of this level, but didn't got to show it...

This level will be fully remade anyways, it's too messy!

Exams are over and I'm finally free from school forever, so I can now work in this game like life depends on it!

I'm fully remaking the 1st and 2nd levels, since I'm trying to make these first levels be able to instantly teach the mechanics to the player.

After almost 1 month in silence... This new build is finally done!

So much stuff was added and completelly rewritten... (that level select screen is the reason for this burn out!)

Anyways, I just added more in-game cutscenes! Here's one right here!

#MONSTER + #CURSED

I was working in this for the monster prompt, but I couldn't finish it in time for the quest, so I decided to merge both prompts since the new one is oddly fitting for this.

This one was drawn on paper! I used 2H pencil for the lineart.

Dive into the cozy post-apocalyptic open world of Critter Cove!

Gentleman Rat Studios (@GR-Rob ) describe it as “a little bit Animal Crossing, a little bit Stardew Valley. Maybe even a little bit Windwaker, too."

Level selection screen preview + medal collection system

I'm kinda back at developing this project, at least for a few days until I have to get ready for exams (again).

Here's a preview of the level selection screen, already with a medal system.

COLOUR PENCIL TESTS

I'm looking forward to start drawing more in paper, specially with coloured pencils, so heres some dragons I just drew!

(H pencil for line art & Faber-Castell 36 pack black edition colour pencils for colouring)

Mae Borowski is the main character of Night in the Woods! It's an adventure game that tells the story of her return to her hometown of Possum Springs. She was confirmed as canonically pan in a social media post by the game's creator Scott Benson.

Looking for feedback!

I released a new build of this game, and after this I'm going to work on the full thing, but first i'd like to hear your thoughts on the game so far!

Is the platforming frustrating? Does the controls suck? Please let me know!
