Thanks for the 700. Now, Let Me Show You What I'm Building.
I woke up to 550+ new followers in 24 hours because GameJolt decided to feature me in "Devruary" on their official page. I reallyyyy still can't believe it
So first: thank you. Genuinely. Whether you followed because of the shoutout or you've been here since day one, I see you there, and I appreciate you.
Now, let me properly introduce myself.
WHO AM I?
I'm Prototypu (call me Proto). I'm a solo indie dev, artist, photographer, filmmaker, and writer. EGRESS is my second game, and my first was a top-down arcade survival game called "The Last Man Standing" that taught me the basics. Here's the link if you want to check it out: https://gamejolt.com/games/TheLastManStanding/948926
I'm learning pixel art as I build. I'm learning psychological horror design as I progress. I'm learning sound design, Unity systems, and how to make players genuinely uncomfortable, all that as I build.
This is still a learning project for me. But I'm not making excuses, I'm focused on making something good.
WHAT IS EGRESS?
EGRESS is a 20-30 minute psychological horror experience.
You play as a man trying to leave his apartment after losing his wife long ago. The door opens. You walk through. You're back at the start. Same hallway. Same doors. But every loop, something changes. You slowly understand what's real and seek the truth.
Each loop peels back another layer of what's really happening here, or what you think is happening.
No jump scares. No monsters chasing you. Just a hallway that knows you well.

WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Because I'm building this in public. Every dev log, every screenshot, every mistake, and breakthrough, don't worry... you'll see it all.
I work 7-14 hours a week on this (I have a day job). I'm targeting September 2026 as the maximum for release. That's 7 months of development or chaos you get to watch in real time.
This isn't just following a normal project. You're following someone who's like you, or maybe worse than you, learning to make atmospheric psychological horror games. And I'd love to learn from you guys as well.
WHAT'S NEXT?
I'm redesigning the hallway tilemap and the looping system this week. Then comes the close-up examination system (think examining photos and objects up close, rotating them to reveal secrets).
After that: sound design, loop variations... etc.
I'll be posting updates here and on X (Proto_Dev) regularly, every Saturday. The dev logs will show the good, the bad, and the "why isn't this working" moments as well.
THE ASK
Stick around. Follow the journey. Tell me when something looks wrong or when an idea sounds bad. I'm still learning, so your feedback helps me learn faster.
And if you know anyone who loves psychological horror, you are in the perfect place.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. It really means the world to me, your follows, your likes, your comments, your shares, everything. Thank you once again.
- Proto
