what is SoftFell?
SoftFell is a different perspective on Underfell—less "everyone's evil as hell" and more "our king is a tyrant, and life sucks ass." It's a world where monsters aren't inherently bad; they're just desperate, hardened by living under Asgore's oppressive rule. The characters are closer to their original counterparts, but the weight of the Underground's broken system has twisted them in subtle, painful ways.
The main difference in the lore is that Asgore is an abusive tyrant. He's power-hungry and ridiculously egotistical. When the first fallen human arrives, Asriel and Toriel secretly hide them from Asgore. They become friends, and eventually, the fallen human gets sick of living in the shadows and makes a plan to dethrone Asgore.
The Fallen Poisons themselves, allowing Asriel to absorb their soul after death. Asriel, with one human soul, confronts Asgore in an epic battle but—spoiler alert—gets absolutely FUCKED. Asgore is stupidly OP in this AU, so it's a L for Asriel. To make matters worse, the fallen's soul shatters, going completely to waste.
"Erm, but if Asgore's so strong, why did they lose the war in the first place!111"
Humans are EVEN more overpowered. Before the war, some humans anticipated potential conflict and developed a game-changing weapon: the "Soul Breaker" (totally original name, I know). This javelin-like weapon could shatter monster souls on contact, regardless of the monster's strength.
During the war, Asgore actually managed to collect two human souls. However, he got absolutely decimated by the Soul Breaker, leaving him critically wounded and the human souls shattered.
This is why, in this AU, Asgore doesn't immediately go past the barrier after obtaining the first human soul after Asriel's death. He's scared SHITLESS of what new weapons humans might have developed in the meantime. So he decides to wait until he has the 7th soul to become a literal god.
After Asriel's death, Toriel leaves Asgore in a state of total emotional devastation. The Underground's fear of Asgore intensifies, pushing Toriel to escape to the Ruins (just like in the original Undertale).
Anyway. Its time to talk about Sand underman (you play as sans in this game). In this AU, he's the complete opposite of his UF counterpart . He's weak as hell. No blasters. No teleporting. No kr. Instead, he's anxious, a total softie (hey, that's the title!), and avoids fights at all costs. He has an old crack on his skull, courtesy of Undyne during a Royal Guard raid in Snowdin— aftermath of the uproar caused by Asriel's attack. ( this is actually how Undyne first meets Papyrus!)
Speaking of Papyrus, he's surprisingly the most unchanged character from the original Underfell. He's bossy, prioritizes work over family, and carries a hefty dose of ego. Sans, lives in his brother's shadow, often viewed as a burden by others, while Papyrus is admired and celebrated.
